5 of 5 Great product for the price Wednesday, September 03, 2008 kdr 246 from Tampa, FL
Obviously people dont understand how to use this. Granted it will quit transmitting when the station picks up a stronger signal but thats with any transmitter. It turns off because your mp3 player isnt playing when that happens either press the station changer button on the transmitter or unplug it from the mp3 player and plug it back in... I think it works brilliantly... i got it because it will be easy to switch between vehicles, the price was great, and its not hard to use... Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Nice Product Monday, June 23, 2008 Corey from Houston, Texas
I really like this product. It sounds very good on the radio in my car. Only down side is that it doesn't charge my ipod. Was this review helpful?

This is the worst and the most useless piece of equipment I have ever bought. It goes off 30 seconds after plugging it into the power source. It tunes in with the radio, but does not transmit anything. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Good from far, but far from good! Tuesday, May 27, 2008 nixpoppy from Brooklyn NY
When I first received this transmitter, I put it right to work. While parked in my driveway, it tuned right in, with great sound.
The next time I plugged it in and took a drive, the station wandered in and out, and would not lock in, no matter how many presets I tried. Which brought out another problem the presets would cut out and the display would blank out. Other than that it worked fine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product!! Saturday, April 26, 2008 A Customer from Grand Blanc, MI
I have a Creative Zen V Plus, and this works great with it. I occasionally have some feed back (due to the Zen being located next to the transmitter). I fixed that problem by moving the Zen to some place in the seat or at distance from the transmitter. After that everything cleared right up. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great value! Wednesday, April 23, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I am very satisfied with this FM transmitter. It took just a little trial and error to find the frequencies that work best in my area, and I set those frequencies as presets 1, 2, and 3 on my car radio to match the buttons on the transmitter. If one gets a little static-y (rare), I just go to one of the others. Of course, the clarity of the transmission is going to depend on number/strength of radio stations in your area, and other factors (e.g., I get static when driving alongside the elevated train on Chicago Avenue in Evanston).
Having this in my car is now like having my own radio station that plays only the music I like (without commercials)!
I rated this as a "3" under "ease of use" because the LCD readout is essentially useless in my car, given the position of the cigarette lighter on the console. But with the preset buttons, I can always return to a known frequency, and then use the tuning button to find a new frequency if I need to. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Works as reviewed Friday, April 11, 2008 A Customer from Wichita, KS
This transmitter works really well. I was frustrated at first cuz some station has static more than the others but I found the right station and it sounds very clear, it's about 90-95% compares to CD player. I think it worth it cuz the CD player in my car was broken so in lieu of get a cd player I get this plus with alot more musics go along with that. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Do not like it Wednesday, April 09, 2008 A Customer from GR, MI
I was hoping that this would work, b/c of all the positive reviews, but there's always static and especially when the volume is turned up on mp3 player, but keeping it low distorts sound. I will end up tearing into my radio and creating a direct input (something I was hoping to avoid!). Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Definitely would recommend Saturday, March 29, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I bought this Kensington Universal FM Transmitter for my Creative Zen and I could not be happier. I previously had the Belkin Tune Cast II which worked horribly in my car. I work in Chicago (Wrigleyville) area so there aren't many frequencies available. Even so, the Kensington gives me clear as can be reception even in a big city like Chicago. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 So so unit not what I expected Sunday, March 23, 2008 Miguel from Kyle, Texas
Don't waste your money buying this type of transmitters. Bottom line it doesn't matter how good the transmitter might be it will never will be compare with the clear sound of a direct signal to a car stereo.
Do you self a favor save your money and buy a MP3 player stereo with and Aux In port. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Great little product Thursday, January 24, 2008 A Customer from Reston, VA
I purchased an iPod-specific FM transmitter made by Monster and ended up returning it, as the static was so bad.
Based on the reviews, I purchased the Kensington FM transmitter and couldn't be happier.
It is very easy to use and I have not experienced any static to date. The sound quality is surprisingly good. It is relatively small, which is convenient, as my cigarette lighter is very close to the gear shift in my car.
One quirk I noticed is that the volume has to be turned up on the iPod to get good sound over the radio. If the volume on the iPod is low, the sound quality is a bit muffled.
I would definitely recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Trasmission Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Ranjith from Morris Plains

All of the previous reviews nailed it. This is the one you are looking for. Great performance, great flexibility and great price. No problems at all. Buy with confidence and enjoy.
I tried a few other products before buying this one (based on the reviews) and none of them came close to cutting it. This one gets the job done. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A sleeping giant! Saturday, January 05, 2008 A Customer from Sacramento,CA
Fantastic performance for a small price. No static or interference like similar transmitters. (Note: Make sure you take the protective film off the frequency display window; will distort the numbers.) Was this review helpful?

I bought this for my son for Christmas. It took him all of two minutes to figure it out without reading the directions. He uses it with his Microsoft Zune, we have also used it with an Ipod, 2nd gen. Works terrific, sounds great. What more could you want? Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Works pretty well, except for hiss Sunday, December 23, 2007 A Customer from Schenectady, NY
This FM transmitter worked pretty well right out of the box. Set up is trivial, fortunately, because the "manual" is minimal. Sound quality is pretty good, except that there's a fair amount of hiss. Turning down the treble helps reduce the noise, but of course that affects the sound quality. One thing the "manual" doesn't mention is that if the audio stops for more than about 30 seconds it shuts off, at which point on my radio I get a lot of static, which is annoying if the volume is high. Overall its a good buy and works pretty much as advertised. Was this review helpful?

3 of 5 Does not work for Sprint PPC-6700 Wednesday, December 19, 2007 thchan from S.F., CA
Bought this for the PDA phone. However, that phone's audio output is lower than other mp3 players. The auto-shutoff mechansim kicks in and shuts off the unit every couple mins. So you really cannot use it with that phone, and probably other PDA phones as well. Works quite well with mp3 players where the volume output is higher. Reception is better than other fm transmitters. Only if we can shut off the auto-sensing mechanism... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just what we all need in our car Monday, December 17, 2007 The Educated Consumer from NYC, NY
Awesome transmitter for your mp3 player. Lets you store 3 preset stations and even has auto power-on and shut-off. There's perfect audio quality transmitted to your cars speakers and usually only blacks out when your under a bridge but that happens with regular radio as well so it what it is. Overall, totally recommended Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Satisfied with purchase Monday, December 17, 2007 A Customer from Springfield, MA
Setup is a no brainer. It will take you longer to unpack the item than it will to install it. It allows you to set three station presets which can be useful, but it is just as easy to manually select a new station. Compared to other devices I have seen and used, I would have to say the sound quality is better than average. I've used it with an 30GB iPod video and 1GB iPod shuffle, but it will work with any device with a headphone jack.
There was a rebate on the item when I purchased it which makes it a killer deal if I ever receive it :-) Nonetheless, it was still a good deal for the full price and I would purchase again if I needed another. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Kensington Universal FM Transmitter Thursday, December 13, 2007 A Customer from Roanoke, VA
This product is working great. I like the fact you can choose the station. The only problem is that it is hard to find an empty channel...when the channel picks up any activity it will kick the player off and go to radio. However, this is no fault of the product. The product is easy to use and the sound is very clear. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works as advertised!! Tuesday, December 11, 2007 BM34M from Staten Island, NY
Love it! Love it! Love it! Plugged it into cig lighter tuned to 88.1 & BINGO! Creative Zen coming at me through the car speakers with little to no interference! I was skeptical of this product at first but I read the great reviews and decided to try it.
Boy! this is technology at it's finest! I have no complaints about this product whatsoever! It's Grrrr-ee-aa-tt!! I hope Kelloggs doesn't mind. This is really a COOL product!

5 of 5 Works as expected. Monday, December 10, 2007 A Customer from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Audio quality is not as good as plugging directly into a car stereo with a line-level input. But much less expensive than having one added! Also great for on the road rental car use with MP3 and DVD players. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Hit or miss Saturday, December 08, 2007 A Customer from Columbus, OH
I guess there are just too many variables to make fm tuner option successful for mp3 players. Kensington worked well with Jeep Liberty, most of the times well with Audi A4, and was diappointing with VW Passat, Citroen C4, Renault Scenic, etc. Many variables seem to impact it, esp your car stereo's reception, no of radio channels in your city. Product is compact and easy to use. Backlit panel was hard to read from an angle but it may be no issue for you depending on where the charger is in your car. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Interference Friday, December 07, 2007 Mallen from Claremont, CA
I just received yesterday. It was easy to connect with very simple instructions. Sound is good when it works, but gets frequent interference. I haven't had a lot of time to work with it, but I am having difficulty finding an FM frequency without any static. This may be because I am in Los Angeles area and we have a lot of stations. I believe I would have the problem with any transmitter. Sound is good when there is no interference. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Works well Thursday, December 06, 2007 A Customer from Lynnwood, WA
Because I live in a crowded radio market it took me awhile to find a clear frequency to use. Once I found that, though, it is very clear and works well with my Sansa MP3. It automatically turns off if there is no input, which is nice. At the time I bought it there was a $20 rebate, a very good value for the money. Was this review helpful?

2 of 5 Be careful about ordering this Wednesday, December 05, 2007 jack from Winter Park, FL
Unfortuneately this item does not mention that it will ONLY fit a power outlet in a car NOT a cigarette lighter outlet. There are many others out there that will fit both but this one will NOT. I have an older car that only has a cigarette lighter outlet and it is useless for it. The shape of the neck and the contacts on the power supply will not allow use. Luckily it will fit my wifes newer car, although she did not neccessarily want one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works well Wednesday, December 05, 2007 A Customer from Newton, MA
Works better than others I have tried, and is very easy and intuitive to use. Easy to set, store, and recall presets. I love that it powers down automatically when there's no audio signal going to it - it's nice feedback, and makes it feel more "integrated" with the mp3 player or other source attached to it. Note that the LCD backlight is yellowish. When I first used it, there was a bit of a hiss in the background on the free station I selected, but switching to a different station further up on the dial eliminated it totally. So it's worth a moment to find a station that not only works but works really well. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Satisfied Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Sam D. from Los Angeles, CA
I just started using this with my Sansa MP3 player. It works flawlessly with clear reception. I like the fact that it is very intuitive and straightforward so you don't need to read through a whole volume of technical instructions to use it. I wish more products were as easy to use. 2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great transmitter Tuesday, December 04, 2007 msjames from Rochester, NY
This is definitely the best one I have used, and I've used many.
The last reviewer is a little confused about when it loses signal - it will not lose signal when you go through a tunner or under a bridge, because unlike other stations on your radio - it is being transmitted from IN YOUR CAR!! You lose other stations because they are blocked from getting TO your car.
However, on a long trip, an empty station that you start out on may have a radio station broadcasting on it at some point along the way which will compete with this device, causing static etc. At that point you just flip to an alternate (blank) station and you are good to go.
This device has an automatic on and off feature, which is triggered when it senses an audio signal coming from your MP3 player. It turns on about 10 seconds after detecting an audio signal, OR you can manually make it turn on sooner. After the audio signal stops, it will auto turn off after a few seconds. The only time I found this a bit annoying is if I put my MP3 on pause for more than a few seconds, the transmitter would turn off and you suddenly hear static from the empty station at whatever volume you had the radio set for. Just something to remember.
Also, for anyone not very electronic/technology savvy who may be wondering, this transmitter will work with ANY device which produces audio and has some kind of AUDIO OUT jack, such as Headphone/earphone jack, RCA jacks, etc. It can be ANY device, whether it's a CD player, cassette player, MP3 player, laptop computer,VCR, DVD player, ANYTHING. And, adaptors are cheap and readily available if you happen to have a different size or type of jack than the connector on this transmitter. You can take it to Radio shack or any similiar place and they can set you up with the correct adaptor for probably $5 or less. WIth the right adaptors, you can hook this up to ANY device which produces audio. Hope that helps. For most of us this is common knowledge, but I realize that there are newbies and other folks out there that may not realize or understand this, and maybe will find this helpful.

5 of 5 Best Performance Sunday, December 02, 2007 ARG from Plano, TX
I have owned several of these devices trying to find one that works to my expectation, which is simply to send a strong FM signal to my car radio so that I can listen to my portable device through my car's stereo radio. I live in Plano (Dallas), TX where every single FM frequency either has a transmitting station or significant "noise" from nearby stations. Neither of the other two FM transmitting units I have purchased have solved this problem. This unit does exactly as it is advertised to do. It sends a very strong FM signal to the car radio and I can now listen to my portable device through my car radio with no interference. I am pretty sure that the srength of the signal is related to the 12V power source and that it is what makes the difference in this unit working versus the other units. The three pre-sets are great also. Simply, this unit works as intended. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works GREAT!!! Saturday, December 01, 2007 Jim P. from Chewelah, WA
Impressive performance. Provides a clear, strong signal that works great with the Bose Audio System in my SUV. Provides a really easy way to listen to my MP3 player while driving. The only drawback is the frequency display is a little hard to read because of the location of the cigarette lighter/auxiliary power jacks in my vehicle. However once set you don't have to mess with the settings anyway so it isn't a real big problem. The ability to have 3 preset frequencies allows you to use it just about anywhere without retuning. All in all, a great little piece of technology. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 best gadget i've ever bought Saturday, December 01, 2007 jax from san antonio, texas

5 of 5 Works Great! Friday, November 30, 2007 HeavyLsnr from DalTX
Great unit for the price. Couldn't be any easier to setup. Works great with my Motorola SLVR. Have to use a mini USB to mini XLR converter that came with the phone. Since my CD player stopped working in my car this has been perfect. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Save your money Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from boca raton, florida
i spent $40 in order to hear hissing noise through my car-radio!
This product is a waste of money - spent more on a better product or replace your car streo. This gudget is flimsy in the way it was put together - it scream "I am cheap" from every button... It is hard to read (the station frequency) and either distores the sound or if you turn your mp3 volume low (to get better sound quality) then the hiss of 'far off station' becomes too dominante. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very decent transmitter Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from Maricopa, CA
Pretty good transmitter. I got mine when it was on sale for 20 bucks here at buy.com, and for that price it's very good. The transmit power seems a little weak in comparison with other transmitters I've used, but the volume is very good. Just get it on the right station and in the right position in the car if possible (I have cig lighter splitter), and it works great. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Convenient and portable Thursday, November 29, 2007 Ed Hoar from Columbus, Ohio
This works very well with audio books which is why I am using it with my mp3 player. It replaces a cassette based adapter and reduces the clutter of cords in my car. I can also use it in my partner's car which has a cd rather than a tape unit. I live in a Metropolitan center and could not locate an empty spot on the band, but was able to use the unit with spots that had only distant stations. When I travel, I have to change channels, but as the unit has 3 memories for stations, this is convenient once a channel has been located. The buttons are small, but since I rarely change the channel, that's not a drawback. The readout is fine and helps programming the transmitter to the correct channel. The fidelity is fine with books--I've never used it with music.
Since it's powered from the car, I don't have to carry extra batteries and change them on the fly. In both cars, the lighter socket is in such a place that I can see the read out and there is a nearby spot where I can place my player. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I love it! Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from Willingboro, New Jersey
I love my Kensington Universal Fm Transmitter. The sound quality is very clear with no static. I use it with my IPOD & portable DVD player. I will recommend product to anyone. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great for Suburban & Rural residents Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from Sussex, NJ
Works great, good price. No good for big city dwellers
Only problem is when close to a very large city like Manhattan
the radio stations are very close together on the dial and will break into the unit's signal, even overpower it.
This is probably a problem with all of these small transmitters.
If you live close or in NYC or LA etc stick with a tape adapter.

5 of 5 Worth Every Penny Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Rick from Los Angeles, CA
This has got to be the best iPod/mp3 FM transmitter! It's just like listening to your favorite FM station. This product is especially amazing during long road trips. It simply does what it's advertised to do. Not only does it do its job, it also charges while it plays! Also, the color black blends in with the dashboard & the stereo. Very stylish!
