Kensington 120W AC/DC Power Adapter

We purchased 2 units & put in the hands of 3 traveling employees. They all found the same experiences: Lightweight is good. Recharging the battery is OK as long as one doesn't need to use the laptop. The problem occurs when using the laptop while the battery is charging on the adaptor, the laptop accesses the hard drive, the adaptor cuts out, and the laptop goes back to battery operation before it is charged. The standard AC adapters allow one to do this without interruption. The users want the standard adapters back.

Yes, the Kensington is one of the higher priced units on the market, but it includes tips for nearly every laptop, has 120 watts to meet the needs of even the most power hungry, and can use AC, cigarette lighter and airplane plug inputs. It truly covers the waterfront and has both a svelte profile and light weight. They have chosen to keep the input cord short and use a long output cord. I think this is a good choice. The unit stays on the floor next to the plug or tucked into your airline seat while the laptop has plenty of scope for movement. Good design job.

Great, universal adapter, for up to 110W. When I got it a year ago it did not have the tips for my laptop but calling Kensington enabled me to get a free tip. It will not power my new 17" laptop which requires a 120W charger. However I still use it for my mini-USB chargeable devices, Blackberry, GPS, etc, so there is a mini-USB tip. I agree with the other poster about the need for a right-angle plug though. As for the short AC cord -- that's on purpose -- it hangs off the wall plug not touching the floor so it cools better.

1- Great options to connect with other devices to charge 2- would have been nice to allow a second connection to charge an accessory like a phone or a pda with the laptop.

This is definitely a good product and probably the best of the universal chargers. I did research on I-Go and the others, they are much heavier and bigger. This unit is thin and light, which is great, and works very well. However, it has some stupid design flaws: 1) If your power plug is on the side of the computer, you'll have a big thing sticking out of it. They should have done a 90-degree adapter for those cases. I think it might force the connector a bit. 2) The cable that connects to the AC outlet is really short. In some cases it's annoying, but there are ways around it (extension, hacking some other ac cord) 3) You can't manually control the voltage 4) There is no adapter to connect USB-powerred devices directly. This would be a great thing to have since so many things are USB-rechargeable today. Overall, a great buy.

I rated 5 for value because I got it at a very good price the day I bought,thanks buy.com The cable from the wall outlet is short,I mean very short.Don't know what the designers were thinking though they have some explanation on the kensington website. Be sure that the smart tips are available for the laptop/cellphone/PDA etc. for which you are buying. The package came with 6 or 7 tips which were useless for me. Ended up buying some at my local electronic store(CC) Already used at home & office, air plane & automobile Works as specified.It's lightweight & am happy with it so far. 120 watts is future proof atleast for a while.
