This does not work for my ps2 because i dont have screw holes on it they dont sell those kind of ps2's any more Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great quality, but... Saturday, July 12, 2008 Mike Smith from Parkersburg, WV
I bought this to attach to my PS2. There's a review earlier that says that as of February, they have the new stock of these that have mounting brackets for PS2's that don't have screw holes, but the one I bought didn't have any brackets. I called Joytech and they told me to call Buy.com, and Buy.com told me that I could return it no questions asked and they'd send me a new one, but I had no guarantee it would have brackets either. So I just kept the one with no brackets and drilled holes in the PS2 and put nuts inside the case of the system(The threads on the screws are size 3 metric). As for the screen, the shipping was fast, the picture quality was incredible, and I can't be any happier now that I have it working. Just be careful about the brackets. Was this review helpful?

I love this item. I recently used it on a 3 hr car trip and it was great to be able to play games on the PS2 using this screen. The image was clear, the sound was great, and the hook up was easy. The compactness of the screen made for easy storage and carry. Also we were able to play games using the screen in the hotel when we found we couldn't hook up PS2 directly to the TV. I liked this product so much I bought a second screen as a back up in case something happens to the original! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 latest version includes brackets for slimline PS2s Tuesday, February 12, 2008 A Gamer from long beach, CA
So I originally purchased the Joytech 8" LCD for PS2 from amazon.com for $149.95 and when it came, it not only was defective (sound not working properly), but it also did NOT come with the extra mounting brackets needed to install this device on to a newer slim PS2 which have no mounting holes. This is not a reflection necessarily on amazon.com, but appears to be because the unit sent to me was older stock.
When I purchased this item from buy.com, I fully expected that I'd still have to drill holes in my slim PS2 to mount the screen. However, when it came I was delighted to find that it was not only un-defective (sound woohoo!), but also included mounting brackets for the newer hole-less slim PS2s!
The way these work are that two slightly different strips of black metal are attached to either side of the newer slim PS2 unit. The one on the left is screwed into place via the pre-existing console-base threaded hole. The one on the right grabs onto the front edge of the ps2. Once both brackets are in place, the actual screen unit is bolted in place to the brackets using the same thumbscrews that are used to mount to slim PS2s that _do_ have the old mounting holes. So far, this has been proven to be very secure.
This was a big concern to me because I saw many other reviews of this screen that said it only supported the old slim PS2s that had mounting holes and previous reviews had mentioned adapters existed, but didn't say they came in the box.
I can confirm that in new stock at least, they definitely are included. If you order this and the brackets are missing, send it back! The brackets are supposed to come with the screen.

I had been contemplating getting a portable screen for my PS2 for quite some time, but - at as much as $250 - had not found one I was willing to bankrupt myself over for the minor luxury of being able to play at work, especially when I could get a small TV much cheaper. But when work started getting really slow, I resumed my search, and found a recommendation for this product on Amazon.
When I first received it, I was ecstatic: the screen is HUGE for this type of product, the graphics were very clear, even for text (an important feature, since I play a lot of RPGs), the unit is sleek, lightweight, and very slim (I can slip the unit, attached to my slimline PS2, into the smallest of my desk drawers with room to spare), and - when closed - does not call attention to itself while sitting on my desk. The sound is not phenomenal - low volume and sounding a bit tinny without headphones - but since the sound in PS2 RPGs tends to get annoying, I usually play without sound anyway, so no big deal.
Then I discovered a problem: there was a dead pixel shining brightly in the lower-left quadrant, and a defect in the plexiglass plating in front of the screen, in the form of a small black smudge. I sighed with frustration and began looking into return procedures when I read the following: "WILL NOT BE REPLACED FOR FEWER THAN 3 (THREE) DEAD PIXELS." I was livid! I had just experienced the dead pixel phenomenon with my brand-new Nintendo DS, and had to go through four until I got one without any dead pixels. But in that case, I was able to stand at the customer service counter and have them bring out box after box until we found one without dead pixels, and they were gladly "replacing" units with only ONE dead pixel.
Now, one dead pixel in a 1280 x 1800 TV that you'll be sitting ten feet away from might not be a big deal, but on an 8" screen I'm looking at from a distance of 24 inches IS a big deal; I find it very annoying, and reprehensible that Joytech not take responsibility for defective product...AND not provide a warning of this ahead of time. But according to the packaging, this problem is "typical" for high-end electronics, and so Joytech is not allowing themselves to be held responsible for it.
So, if you want the biggest, brightest, clearest portable screen out there for your slimline PS2, and don't mind the risk of having to put up with as many as two dead pixels (and untold screen blemishes, since they don't count as dead pixels), then I highly recommend this product. Do note that this unit is for the slimline PS2 only, and that Joytech is now providing a FREE adapter kit for the newer slimline PS2 models without the screw holes. Was this review helpful?

I had one of the earlier slim models, which does have the available screws in the back for this wonderful screen.
Once turned on, it was amazing..the sound, color, clarity..everything...for about 20min.
Soon..the screen went black, I couldn't power it off, if I unplugged it and then plugged it back in the screen flashed white and produced only static for noise.
Unfortunately, a series of unfortunate events prevented me from utilizing the shipping label produced by buy.com for it's exchange. However, when time/money permits I will purchase this again.
I've checked reviews on several sites...all positive. I'm convinced I just got a bum deal/model this time.
It's worth every penny..however, be sure to be prepared to return it in case something does go wrong. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 NO holes in my ps2 Tuesday, February 13, 2007 DRUNK-EPIPHANY from GLENDALE, ARIZONA
I bought this awesome screen and then later realized I didn't have the holes in the back of my ps2 to mount the screen. So, I drilled some pilot holes and it works great! I couldn't have asked for a better screen. I love sneaking it in to work! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Freaking Awesome! Wednesday, January 17, 2007 A Gamer from Chicago, IL
i'm bored 90% of my job, and now i'm hardly ever! my only thing is the sound for dvd's is way quiet but i guess its more the playstation's fault, otherwise the screen is great!! Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 1 of 5 DO NO BUY for Playstation 2 Slim!!! Wednesday, January 03, 2007 mystawill@yahoo.com from Colorado Springs, Co
I bought this product specifically because it was supposedly designed for the playstation 2 slim. However, once it arrived (2 weeks after I ordered it) I found out the truth. It is not designed for the slim nor is this product supported by sony playstation. I know this because I called sony's technical support and that is what they said. I also emailed joytech's technical support and they said in short "We are aware of this problem and are taking appropriate measures to resolve it". They gave me a case number and I haven't heard from them since. If you're looking for a LCD screen to loosely dangle from your PS2 by the video & power connections only to cause connection problems in the future, you've found the right product. Otherwise, I'd go elsewhere and beware of other products' compatibility with the PS2 slim. Was this review helpful?

The Joytech 8" lcd screen will not attach to the newest Model #77001 ps2. There are no holes in this model to attach the screen to. I have emailed Joytech several times and they have not contacted me to resolve this problem. I cannot testify as to how good it looks until I can find out how to attach it. The sole purpose for me buying the screen was for my son to play it while traveling but the way it is it's useless. Was this review helpful?

This is an amazing monitor screen for the PS2 two ... BUT my silver PS2 does not have the mounts necessary to secure the monitor. So while the monitor works, it is only connected to the PS2 by the DC power and video connections. perfectly fine for playing at home, but very bad for a bumpy car ride. :(
I absolutely LOVE this monitor, except for the fact that I can't play it in the car ... which is fine since I'm usually the driver anyways. Was this review helpful?

I have to say that this screen is a must buy for any PS2 enthusiast. I am amazed at the clairity of the screen. It's very bright and the colors are crisp and vibrant. I am an RPG nut and games like Final Fantasy XII and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner look just fantastic. The text for these games is perfectly readable which is something competing screens fail at.
I did a lot of research before purchansing this item. Joytech makes a great quality product. As I've said, the screen looks great. The sound is also impressive. While it really doesn't have bass it still caries a decent amount of quality and it also offers a surround sound feature that makes games/movies/music sound all the more dynamic. And if you don't like any of that, you can just plug in some head phones and listen that way.
This screen is just full of quality. It fits the PS2 perfectly, comes with a remote to control both the screen and the DVD playback on the PS2, the sound is nice, and it's just an amazing product. It's a perfect travel companion and even comes with a lighter adapter and a cloth carrying case for both the screen and PS2 together. If you are considering a screen for you PS2 then look no further! The 8" LCD screen is a great add-on! Now we can play PlayStaion and watch TV at the same time. I give it a 9 out of 10. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because it's not completely portable. A rechargeable battery on this unit would make it a perfect 10. I totally recommend it because Joytech is a company that stands by their products. Joytech by far is the best company to buy accessories for your PlayStation System. I purchased a Joytech wireless remote for the PlayStation and it stopped working after 2 months. Joytech replaced it with a better model no extra charge and its still working after 14 months of constant use. Buy.com has made a satisfied customer out of me. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Outstanding! Thursday, October 26, 2006 A Gamer from Crossville, Tn.
I highly recommend this monitor for anyone who owns a PS2! The sound and picture are great and is perfect to take with you when you travel. It is definitely worth the money! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A solid LCD monitor for the slim PS2 Wednesday, October 25, 2006 Uchinan from Ann Arbor, MI
I bought this monitor about a month ago and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. I have seen and used 3 different PS model monitors (PS1 & PS2), and this is by far the best yet. The screen is big and bright with good colors. The SRS surround sound is good enough when you don't want/have headphones. There seems to be a little ambient background noise when using headphones, but nothing that is a show stopper. The remote which comes with the unit is very handy, and the DC car adapter is a thoughtful addition. It should also be noted that the screen supports progressive scan. =)
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
- One Additional Note: The screen NOT support progressive scan, so don't forget to turn this off if you have the PS2 set that way. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Better than expected Tuesday, September 26, 2006 A Gamer from Alexandria, VA
This screen is much better than I thought it would be. The view is great and the sound is impressive. I expected the sound to be marginal at best but I found that I have yet to need to turn it all the way up to hear it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Everything I hoped for in a big small screen Tuesday, July 25, 2006 Stephen from Buffalo, New York
The colors are rich, the picture sharp, the screen big enough to enjoy games or movies at the kitchen table, sound is enjoyable but is as expected for small speakers but no distortion, vibration or hum to speak of. I do have one dead pixel that I can't even notice once I get into a game but Joytech will replace the screen with three or more. If you want to game or watch movies in different locations of the house or car this is your screen. Was this review helpful?

This screen is the best screen available for the new slim PS2.
For any family out there that is looking to buy a portable DVD player and if you own a slim PS2, don't bother. Get this unit instead and have a portable game machine and DVD player for the kids.
I hesitated slightly because of the cost of this screen, but the small touches and extras that are included, this unit is more than worth it.
How about an included car charger adapter? The screen has two headphone inputs. DVD remote, carryng case.
I ran a test DVD and the colors are awesome. All I need now is a portable power pack and I can leave the laptop during vacations and use this player on the plane.
If your looking for portable entertainment for your kids, don't hesitate on this unit. I bought some velco strips for my cars and attached it to the bottom of the PS2, so I can take it with any of my cars. Was this review helpful?

Love it. I just recieved it yesterday. It is well matched to the console. The color is awesome. Graphics are awesome. Much better quality than I was expecting. I love WWE Wrestling Games. It felt like I was sitting on top of the ring playing. I can't wait for my next road trip. One bonus I wasn't aware of is that you can leave this monitor hooked up at all times. There is a seperate jack off the monitor for use with traditional PS2 AV outputs. Sound is pretty intense too. I would highly recommended this for any and all gamers. Quality is worth the cost. Thanks to Joytech, Sony of America will have less to worry about this year (besides the PSP and a PS3 launch in 2006.) This monitor is packed with features that other monitors just dont have. Sure, all you need is a screen to see the action. But will a 5.4 inch screen be enough for the more hardcore gamers out there? It certainly will not.
Joytech's monitor packs an amazing 8 inches of clarity unseen in other monitors for any console. And there are many ways to use the space you have including three different aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9, and a nifty Fullscreen option witch is great for gaming.) The Input button gives you three choices for viewing: RGB, Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr, and DVD/Game. The colors on your console's options menu have to be set to match whichever input you chose whereas the DVD/Game input is universal. Also, when bolting the screen up to the back of the console, you now have a Multi Input AV (a 25-pin socket.)
What makes this monitor stand out is the little things that people want. A fully functional Monitor/DVD playback remote (yes, the monitor has a power on/off button.) The monitor also uses the PStwo's power, it doesnt require ANOTHER power cord like other monitors. And to top it off, 640x480 resolution. What more could you want?
The downsides are minimal. There is some sound interference in the speakers that coincides with the disc spinning in the console. Just a slight hum in the background, which some people may find annoying. But like watching a movie in black and white, you don't even notice it after a while. The speakers could have been a bit louder, although the SRS certainly makes a difference in sound quality, it doesn't amplify the sound very much. Headphones are recommended for long trips in the car. Was this review helpful?
