5 of 5 Somewhat fragile yet still amazing Friday, April 03, 2009 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
It's true that they are a little fragile; however, mine only broke after a good 6 months of constant use and that is only because I tried to turn the ear cups the wrong way. Both ear cups fold in one direction only so they can be placed in the case for easier storage; however, it is very easy to accidentally attempt to fold them the wrong way, and if you force it too much, they will break. All of that being said, it was nothing that a proper application of duct tape at the right places didn't fix good as new. Now my Jabras are just like they were if not stronger because of the layers of reinforced duct tape. For the price you probably can't find a better set of noise canceling, full ear cup cushion, battery-optional (as in, will run without batteries if you turn the noise cancellation off) headphones. 2 of 5 Too fragile Sunday, February 15, 2009 Roy G. from Staten Island, NY
The plastic part that holds the ear piece is thin and fragile. Even protected with the fancy case this part broke after the third use. The headphone had to be thrown away. A waste of money! A $35 Radio Shack headphone was just as effective in noise reduction, although much more uncomfortable. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Loved them until.... Sunday, December 21, 2008 A Customer from Orlando, Florida
Lots of good reviews for these headphones. I would agree with them until the last few weeks. I have used them for about 5 months. First the plastic cracked on both right and left sides where the top slides into the bottom. I was able to salvage them with some tie wraps. Now, however, the plastic on the arm where they attach to the earphone has cracked making them useless. They should have lasted much, much longer considering how lightly used they were and how they were taken care of. I just think they are poorly made. If comparisons are to be made and I had a choice, I would spend the extra money on a more sturdy brand (non-plastic) because no matter how well they compare to the Bose or another brand, it does not mean much if they don't last. 5 of 5 Great Value Tuesday, August 26, 2008 krb from DeMotte Indiana
I've had these for several months and all I can say is that I love these head phones. I use them on my riding lawn mower, on flights, and at work. The audio performance is best with the noise reduction on. I usually get several weeks of use on one battery. Best Buy! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Superb value for money! Wednesday, February 27, 2008 S.Sen from Raleigh, NC
I was looking for a pair of quality noise canceling phones and bought into this after reading the reviews online (here, amazon & other sites). And wow! Didn't expect anything better than this.
Never tried Bose as it was out of my budget, but if Bose is much better than this, then it'll probably be hazardous unless you absolutely don't want to be disturbed! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best noise cancellation for the money Monday, February 18, 2008 A Customer from Santa Barbara, CA
They don't quite cancel out as much noise as I expected them to, they work great overall and definitely help me concentrate in a noisy environment. I tested Bose, they aren't much better. The switch that enables noise cancellation is very hard. The cord is too short to reach behind computer standing on the floor, but if you have an extension its perfect. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great performance Wednesday, February 06, 2008 David from Ashburn, VA
I typically wear my headphones about 5-6 hrs. a day at work. They are not only comfortable but they sound great! The noise canceling is great for blocking out noise from flourescent lighting and most other typical 'office' noises.
With the noise canceling turned on, the sound of my music is RICH and full. The length of the cord is very good (as it comes with 2 of diff sizes.) And the battery life is much longer than I expected even with usage 5 days a week. One battery lasts me about 2 weeks.
Love 'em! Also I shouldn't mention this... but I got them at just under $50 here a while back!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I Love 'Em! Sunday, February 03, 2008 A Customer from Aurora, Il.
I could not be happier with the Jabra headphones. I have purchased many different types of phones and buds, and these are absolutely the best. I consider them every bit as good as the more expensive Bose products that are comparable, and would not even consider an even trade of the products. I love 'em! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good value & sound Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Rob from Oshkosh, Wisconsin
I've had a few different brands of noise canceling headphones in the less than $100 price range. These Jabras are clearly the best of those I've tried both in terms of noise reduction AND audio fidelity. I didn't expect them to sound like audiophile headphones that cost in the hundreds (and also don't try and do noise cancellation) but for their price they do sound very good. Level of noise cancellation also is higher than others I've had and it does work very effectively - rated at up to 22dB - some others have been more like 12 or 15. I used them recently on long-haul flights across the Pacific and they were great. I also like the fact that they provide all necessary adaptors etc. and the LHS earcup has a recessed stereo mini plug socket (3.5" female) rather than a permanently attached cord so cable can be removed if desired and also easily replaced if broken or a different length is desired. Highly recommended at the price I paid ($60) and still very good for any price under $100 in my view. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 These headphones are stunning Tuesday, January 29, 2008 Scott H from Dallas, TX
When I get on a plane, these shut the world out. I get the same performance as units costing hundreds of dollars more.
As a frequent traveler, I don't know how I survived without these. I heartily endorse them!! Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 No rechargeable battery! Ok Value Monday, January 28, 2008 A Customer from St. Paul, MN
Others have talked about the quality. I think it is good, however, if you want to listen to music, you really need to have the power on (battery). Without power, I would rather use the ear bud with my MP3.
Now, the battery story. It says you should not use rechargeable batteries. They are correct - you *can't*. I was hoping to use a NiCD, or NiMH but they do not work (fully charged, they work in another device). The answer I got was that the phones need 1.5V and rechargeables are all 1.2V. I am not sure if any phones can use rechargeables but if that is a strong need, don't try it. You need to ask a vendor if their device will function with 1.2V.
Again, they do a good job reducing noise and they sound very good with an MP3 when powered. Bring alkaline AAA batteries. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Excellent noise cancellation and battery life Thursday, January 24, 2008 A Customer from tampa bay, florida
I previously had Sehnheiser PCX 250 which were comfortable to wear but created a distinct low-frequency boom with the noise cancellation on. I gave them away and bought the Jabra. The difference is night and day. Noise cancellation is vastly superior, and there is no boom. Battery life and comfort are excellent. Size is a slight disadvantage, however unlike the Sehnheiser the unit is self-contained. No support from Jabra though since the model has been discontinued. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 They block out the world! Thursday, January 24, 2008 -Andy from Orem, Utah
These are the 3rd pair of noise cancellation earphones I have owned and these are superior to all I have tried. They are easily comparable to the Bose $350 set- which I have also tried. The best part is that these are $300 less. I was preparing to get off the bus the other day, and when I took these off, I realized there were some people griping about a man that had been on his cell phone the entire ride- I hadn't even heard him. I was into a movie and loving the isolation. They are incredible and come with a very high-quality durable case too.
Enjoy! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Quiet, modest fidelity Tuesday, January 22, 2008 CW from Tucson
These headphones actively cancel outside noise. They should work very well on an airplane, but I use them to shield noise from surrounding cubicles at work.
<p>A nice feature is a 3.5 mm phone plug in the headphone. You can remove the wire and use the headphones to generate silence without needing a sound source.
<p>Mechanically, they are rugged. Not too heavy, even with the battery for the noise-cancel circuitry. I find them comfortable as a "conventional" over-the-ear headphone.
<p>I am no longer so accute a listener as I used to be. The fidelity of the Jabra C820s is not especially good. Basically, the circuitry that cancels the noise appears to "enhance" the stereo audio signal giving it a larger-than-life depth and enhanced base response. With noise cancelling turned off, the sound is thin (distorted?) and lacking base.
<p>I think these are a very good value for casual use. I would not identify them as a high fidelity reference headset.
<p>An interesting point - I can't find this model listed on the Jabra website.

I previously wrote a review when I bought these headphones for myself. Then my friend came into town and tried them out. Needless to say he took them for the flight home to California and I bought myself a replacement set. I haven't used them yet, but I am planning at least 7 out of town airline trips this year. They will be well used. Considering my budget for this kind of item, they are also a great bargain. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Pretty Good Headphones Monday, January 21, 2008 Ramona from Belleville IL
These fit well, feel comfortable, and give better than average sound quality. They still get some static on the computer but not on the MP3. I like the way they fold flat and have a carrying case. Compared to Bose they are a very good value. I put in the battery for noise cancelling but the blue light didn't light up so I'm not sure whether that is working. That is the reason I rated performance at 3. I tried a fresh battery with the same result. The instruction booklet refers to several illustrations that don't seem to be in the book. Overall, though, they perform quite well. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Bose Boasts, but Jabra Delivers (at less than half Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Doctor Orpheus from Tucson, AZ
The long and short of it is these were a gift for a friend who travels between Tucson and Seattle every single week. After he left his iPod and an old set of Sony noise-cancelling 'phones aboard a recent flight, he was left at the mercy of the airline-supplied audio diversions and, as a result, was quickly going insane. Not wishing to see him open a 737's door by "accident" in a fit of despair, I read (and read and read and read) a whole host of buyer reviews on the non-Bose (because Bose remains the single highest form of "form disregards function unless it costs four times what it would were it from an audio manufacturer that spends its time and money on product rather than grossly misleading infomercials" in the known universe) active 'phones available at a reasonable price. These Jabras (a company now associated with Klipsch and their new line of high-end in-ear headphones) were being offered at just under $50 here on Buy.com, and were being (nearly) universally well-reviewed. Ergo -- WINNER! My friend says these 'phones are vastly superior in comfort to his lost $150+ Sonys (my apologies for not remembering their exact model number), and, due to their lack of wear fatigue, are superior in every way to said Sony cancellers. I can honestly say that the Jabra C820s are far more open-sounding than their street price level would ever even begin to suggest, and are, for want of a better description, a perfectly competent compromise when one's not shopping in the upper-echelon strata of Stax, Grado or < insert $600+ headphone maker of choice here > as your intended price range. The 40mm drivers offer more than respectable bass, and their claimed -20dB (four times as quiet as the surrounding background noise their active phase manipulation is blotting out) cancelling ability certainly sounds right to anyone who's tried them. As an "Old Guard" TAP Evaluator for Lucasfilm, I'm purported to posses at least a somewhat competent ear for such things, so, whether that means a damn thing to the readers of this review or not, I rather doubt any of you'd feel the least bit burned buying these 'phones at TWICE the price I paid. Sporting a good warranty and the ability to be used in either passive or active (even for sleep purposes, when used sans source) applications, as well as being made by a "real" company, you should take the plunge and be happy in the post-TSA prostate exam world of aural ecstasy you'll now be able to create for yourself.

3 of 5 not bad but not amazing Wednesday, January 16, 2008 jack from lakewood nj
been using this now for a week and although it's not bad I have to say I was expecting more. Ive never tried the Bose so I don't now how good these things can be, but I can still here voices pretty clearly especially my mothers' (maybe it's because she talks in such a high register) it doesn't say what frequency's it works best for blocking. You might want to find out the frequency level of the annoying people in your life before buying Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best Deal on NC Headphones Wednesday, January 16, 2008 D.Hansen from Denver, CO
I've owned the Bose, which last year the electronic componentry failed internally and Bose said I could return them and pay an additional $165 for a new pair - so now I can make a valid comparison to my new Jabra's and the so-called industry pioneer and benchmark. In my opinion, you will not find a better deal in the market. These were made with care, quality, and attention to detail and perform just as well as the Bose. My brother also owns some other Jabra headphones for his mobile phone and they perform just as well. For $50, these are a steal if you can get it at that price or even under a $100 your doing well. They are also backed by a 1-year warranty (same as the Bose), but if they go bad your not going to feel depressed having wasted $300 for the Bose. People in the industry should take note of Jabra's rising reputation for superb products at great prices. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Tuesday, January 15, 2008 A Customer from Detroit, MI
These headphones are fabulous. One of the best purchases that I've ever had. Clear sound, over the ear coverage, and noise-canceling provide a 3 punch combination that totally drowns out my annoying boss's voice, the overhead A/C, and makes me feel like I'm in the music studio hearing the band that I'm listening to record live! A definite must buy if you don't have "Bose money". Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Crisp, clear sound and effective noise cancelling Tuesday, January 15, 2008 A Customer from Sacramento, CA
I took a chance with this purchase since the reviews were positive. I don't regret this purchase at all. I own a comparable noise cancelling headphone from another brand for 2x the price and it's sound quality was good and so was it's noise cancelling feature. However, this unit's sound is clearer and crisper with better bass. I'm really surprised and impressed. The overall craftsmanship is not up to par with the Bose unit but overall, the quality of the ear cushions and plastic is great for the price granted that I saved >$200 if I had invested on the Bose. So enjoy! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Jabra C820 Monday, January 14, 2008 A Customer from Boston MA
Great Headphone for the money. Recieved this item last week and used them on a flight from Boston to Fort Lauderdale. As soon as I turned on the headphones noise cancelling button all the low frequencies dissappeared. The sound was great at all levels high or low and you could still hear the pilots announcements. For the money you cannot go wrong with this headphone. Why spend the money for Bose? Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Jabra C820s - The poor mans Bose Friday, January 11, 2008 Chris from Ellicott City, MD
While the comparison of the Jabra c820s to the Bose QC2's is nothing new, it seems pretty accurate, since they appear to take significant design cues from them. The Jabras offer somewhat less bass response and, overall, come up just a touch shy of the Bose's clarity. That said, they still deliver a crisp sound with effectively good NC. If you are one who cannot bear to spend over $100 for a good pair of NC headphones, than the Jabra c820s are for you. Jabra went to school on the QC2's and actually work when the battery dies - something the QC2's do not. Like the QC2's, all the plugs 'n wires along with the carrying case are provided making the Jabra set a very good deal. Only one minor complaint to date: I've noticed minor electronic buzz/interfenece when plugged into my computer.

4 of 5 Fooled by the hype Thursday, January 10, 2008 Lancer from Tampa, FL
This product had got lot of very very good reviews and I got fooled by them, I should say. The build quality and sound quality is okay, but I would not have bought this if I had checked this in a store. At the same time the quality is not so bad that I should return this to Buy.com.
1. There is an audible static noise when you turn noise cancellation on. This is there always
2. It feels as if it achieves noise cancellation only by increasing the signal strength and not by doing much on the active noise cancellation side
3. No way this can be compared with Bose as some of the other reviewers say. Bose is defnitely a notch above
4. But overall it is worth the 50$ that i had paid for this item Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Amazingly Effective at an Amazing Price! Thursday, January 10, 2008 erawlins from New York, NY
Since all the mini headphones that came with the various electronics devices I've bought over the years all decided to crap out last summer, I've spent about $600 buying five or six different replacement headphones over the past few months. While my favourite for home use are the Sennheiser HD600s, I also wanted something smaller, more portable, and with noise-cancelling capability for work. I considered the various Bose options (too expensive), and even bought the RCA HPNC300 noise-cancelling headphones, but by far the Jabra C820s are the ones I'm happiest with.
You can check out the set's specs yourself on the Tech Specs page, but in non-technical terms, these 'phones work amazingly well. The over-the-ear construction includes a pleather cushion which acts to passively block out about 30% of the ambient sound; then, when you turn the headphones on (the set comes with the required one AAA battery), it's almost eerily quiet - you won't hear anything below the level of someone nearby speaking loudly (they're rated at up to 22dB cancellation). The sound of music played through these phones is nicely balanced and clear, more than adequate for playing MP3s and CDs on a Mac or PC.
In terms of physical construction, each earpiece is attached to the main headset by a tuning fork-shaped plastic prong, which can be extended up to an inch (and is held in place by a fairly secure ratchet system), and each earpiece can be swivelled independently up to 90 degrees toward the rear (facing behind you as you wear the set normally). The headband is encased in a pleather sleeve, and the overall construction is durable, yet the set is very light. The right earpiece accepts 3.5mm male connectors, which means you can use your own double-male cable or use one of the two included cables (1' long for use on an airplane, and 5'), which affords great customisability and usage options, as well as allowing you to replace cables if/when they wear out.
These aren't the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn (that distinction goes to my HD500 Sennheisers), but they're pretty close. The set is a little tight side to side (the width of the one-piece-construction headband cannot be adjusted), the pleather cushions a little snug on my ears, and - if music isn't playing - it feels like being underwater or in a plane after takeoff (you may find yourself trying to pop your eardrums!), but overall I feel quite comfortable in them. My only complaint is that I keep forgetting to turn them off when not in use! These are a great deal - especially compared to the comparably performing Bose options - and highly recommended, especially anyplace where ambient noise is bothersome. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Compares to Bose, sennhouser Thursday, January 10, 2008 wolfpa from Castro Valley, CA
I seem to collect headphones like any other toy - got lots and lots. I want to try these babies on a train trip, then a cruise I'm going on. We'll see how they rate on something other than planes.
So far, sound quality is great, quality/build of the unit superb, and fairly light weight for a full size unit. The included case will protect it, but it is large (little choice there). Also, the fit on my head - my fairly large head - is good. The sizing seems pretty adaptable. I'll let you know how the trip worked out in a few weeks. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great headphones Thursday, January 10, 2008 A Customer from Springtown, TX
Not quite as noise-cancelling as I'd expected, but since these are the first of this kind I've owned, I don't know if they are as good in that function as the more expensive ones. That being said, they do have excellent sound. I was shocked at how good music sounds from my laptop.
They are very comfortable and it's nice to have all of the extra connectors (which I haven't used yet). The case is also a great bonus.
My son is a professional music producer (Burufunk) and he tried them and thought they were awesome. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Jabra C820 headset sounds great Thursday, January 10, 2008 RC from Highland, CA
Bought this headset as a back-up to the Bose Q2 I already owned. I have had the Bose for several years and it is holding up well.(for the price it should) Bought the C820s for $50 at buy.com-sound is great and built fairly well-only time will tell how they hold up. I noticed a very light electronic clicking when close to my desktop computer equipment(only with noise cnx on and no music playing. With music going all you hear is great sound). My guess is that my wireless transmitters are producing the interference -called Jabra about it-they have not had this complaint before-works fantastic away from electronic interference when just usisng noise cancel feature-probably not shielded as well as the Bose. I learned that this headset is not warranted in the US(regardless of where you bought it)-if you have a problem you are own your own, but for $50(originally $189) sound is great and I actually like the bass on this headset better than the Bose. On the Bose if battery goes dead you lose sound-on Jabra you can use the headset with or without noise cnx and no battery at all-with noise cnx on, the sound is boosted up and sounds fuller than with it off. I like the headset so well I am buying it for my son before it is no longer available. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Nice Thursday, January 10, 2008 Dan from Boca Raton, FL
The headphones are very nice and effective. I have never used the Bose phones, but I have used other noise cancelling ear plugs. Those plugs became uncomfortable after a short while. These headphones were in fact very comfortable.
On my first flight with them (Jet Blue) I was able to listen to their XM rasio which sounded great and watch Direct TV. The sound quality was fantastic. The noise cancelling was also excellent. The the engine drone was drowned out. (As was the screaming kid).
The Jabra headphones feel like a quality product in your hands. They do not feel junky.
The come with a nice zip-together carrying case and adaptors for cell phones, air plane inputs (2 prongs), standard stereos, and a few different sized cords. (I may be forgetting an adaptor).
I am very happy with these headphones. I paid around $50 for them on Buy.com. I would guess the Bose will be better, but they are 4+ times the price. Was this review helpful?

I've used it on the plane and in my garage while using power tools and it works great. I was impressed that I could listen to podcasts even while running a circular saw.
The only negative is that when it is turned on without any other input, I can hear a low level of white noise which I believe is generated by the headphones. I wonder if Bose headphones do the same. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Not a Bose, but not bad! Monday, January 07, 2008 A Customer from Thousand Oaks, CA
For $50 I ordered two of these Jabra C820's and was pleasantly surprised. I have tried a few different discount noise cancelling headphones, and these perform the best of the ones I have tried. While they still can't compare to the Bose for overall clarity and sound quality, they do cut the noise well, and an important feature is that the signal is amplified, similar to the Bose. In addition, they are packaged very similarly with a nice case for protection while travelling. I prefer the "over- the-ear" design that these headpohone use. These are perfect for low cost alternative to the Bose, or for the kids to use on the plane, or in the car. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 My first noise cancellation device Saturday, January 05, 2008 rlbeak from Blue Springs MO
While I have never tested any Bose product, I rather imagine that this Jabra headset compares favorably with a Bose headset. I ride a bus for my daily 40-minute-each-way commute, and could immediately tell a difference when I fired up the noise cancellation feature. I discovered right away that I could easily get by with a much reduced volume and still experience a much better quality. I could hear music that I didn't know was there before with earbuds. The price was certainly a plus as I think Jabra is introducing a newer product, and it was about one-fourth of the "suggested retail" price...in other words about 50% off? This certainly was and is an excellent purchase. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best noise cancelling headphones you can get for t Saturday, January 05, 2008 A Customer from Burke, VA
I travel quite a bit and have used many headphones over my travel lifetime. I've used QC1s, QC2s and have tried numerous other brand headphones. For the money, you can't beat these. These compare very well to my QC2s and i'm not worried if I should lose these (they cost 1/4 of what the Bose cost). I still carry a my sony MD-NC11 in ear NC headphones simply for their size and audio quality.
The C820s headphones sound great, they're comfortable, they come will all the needed cables and adapters. I like that the cable is a standard 2 ended 1/8 stereo cable, If you've ever gotten up late on a flight and forgot about your headphones and yanked hard on the cable, you'll find that a CHEAP replaceable cable can save the cost of new headphones.
If you are in the market for a great set of over ear NC headphones, purchase these. You will not be sorry. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 lots of bang for the buck Friday, January 04, 2008 gino from virginia beach, va
Every bit and more so of what I expected! Stylish, comfortable, well built and excellent quality. I am so pleased, that next year all my friends will get these as gifts. Sure they are not made by Bose, the so called gold standard, but I have tried both and for my money, these by jabra, work as well if not better. A+ Was this review helpful?
