This is just what I was looking for - a 320GB external drive to use with Time Capsule on my MacBook which I just upgraded to 320GB. I wanted a quality drive for a good (read: low) price, so watched for weeks until I saw this one go on sale. It was definitely worth the price. The construction is pretty typical of an external, portable drive, but the brushed metal exterior is an upgrade from the average plastic - good for both temperature control and scratch resistance.
Take some of the below "faults" with a grain of salt! Note that this drive DOES NOT REQUIRE 2 USB PORTS - the provided cable has 2 USB connectors in case you need MORE POWER, but it should run just fine off a single USB connection...mine does. I have another portable USB drive and it came with the same type cable, but I've never had a need to use both ports. Did you people try it with just one before leaving a review?? If it didn't work, then maybe your computer is underpowered, but again, mine worked just fine on a MacBook. Also, yes, it only has 298GB formatted, but this is pretty much the case with any HDD. I installed a new 320GB 2.5" notebook drive in my MacBook, and before restoring it from a backup it read approx 298GB. Buying a different drive/brand won't gain you any additional space.
This is a great drive at a great price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Couldn't be easier Wednesday, May 20, 2009 rockcanyon from Comstock, TX
I plugged it into my Vista laptop and it just worked - no problems at all. I was also impressed that it wasn't packed with junk software and demo programs. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 3 weeks in... Sunday, March 01, 2009 jonathan from knoxville, tn
so far nearly flawless. It is a tiny drive. Works perfect with my macbook. I tested it fully to make sure that my back ups were bootable and again perfect. The only issue that is not 100% perfect is that in my opinion the small usb connection to the drive is not as tight as I would want. (In other words, it comes out too easily for me.) This issue has not been a deal breaker, but worth mentioning. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Iomega Hard Drive Satisfies My Requirements Tuesday, February 03, 2009 hestes37 from Seal Beach Ca.
The drive arrived with 2 days and worked perfectly out of the box. It's powered by the USB port and stores 320 gb of data. It's nice and small/light so it makes it easy to take with me for additional storage. I'm thinking of picking another one up for my laptop instead of installing a larger internal hd. I purchased the Western Digital HDD and found a quick return due to its poor quality. I ended up reading the reviews on Iomega HDDs and I decided to give it a try. Glad I made that decision. Be careful of the reviews you read on portable drives as many users don't give good reviews. Anyway. the drive comes with a USB cable with dual USB connectors for addition power (if needed). The drive also has the flexibility to power with a separately sold power cable. This is great if you're looking for a drive to work almost anywhere. The read and write speeds are great. The outside of the drive is not flashy in terms of looks, but the shell is very durable compared to Western Digitial drives. I highly recommend this item. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Buy! Wednesday, January 28, 2009 A Customer from Ferndale, MI.
The Iomega Portable Hard Drive is easy to use right from the case. I didn't use the software offered for back up and recovery (there's a fee), but the drive works like a charm. I did not have to use both USB ports, it worked with using only one. It is very portable and sturdy. I have been very happy with the purchase and would get another Iomega product again. This external HDD works, BUT ONLY IF you have 2 USB ports on the same side of your laptop. I bought this drive for my wife, but unfortunately, her laptop had 2 USB drives on either side. Because the cable was too short, she could not use it.
If you look at some pictures though (including pictures in the manual), the cable that they show is long enough to straddle your laptop. But the cable that was shipped was not the same as what was in the picture.

Good hard drive and small which makes it ideal for travel. However, it needs two USB ports which can be a problem with small laptops that have only 2 ports, if you use other external devices. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 on the flimsy side... Sunday, December 21, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
This portable hard drive is not bad for its price, though if you have 20 bucks more to spare I would recommend getting a studier one. I bought it as backup drive for my Macbook, and the USB connector sometimes isn't well detected on the computer. I have to plug and unplug it a couple of time before my computer can find it. It's also quite sensitive to vibration: I accidentally shook up my desk a little bit and the harddrive would drop its connection to the computer (with the light still on, meaning that it is still getting power, but just drive isn't recognized). This has happened in the middle of an automatic backup and can be kind of problematic...
But in general, it does what it's supposed to do (stores data), and if i don't move it around too much, it works fine most of the time. Was this review helpful?

Not a bad price but it is not 320GB. I ordered 2 of these and both only have 298GB. I understand that some memory is already used from the factory but usually a few MB at worst, NOT 22G. In my opinion buy another brand. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best external drive I own Monday, December 15, 2008 A Customer from Sewell, NJ
The external drive is small and light weight. I use it to backup files and it is fast. I prefer it over flash drives which are 10 to 20 times slower. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Small on the outside yet big on the inside. Sunday, December 14, 2008 Brian from Detroit
Excellent small form factor HD for the price. The data/ usb cable in the package I received fits a little loose at the HD end. I switched with a different USB-mini USB cable and it was perfectly fine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A good solution for storage and portability Sunday, December 14, 2008 A Customer from Alexandria, VA
This device is compact and powerful, and is a good solution to both safeguarding your info through backing up, and also to lugging a laptop from place to place. Was this review helpful?
