IOGear Wireless USB 2.0 Bluetooth Adapter

It was the first time that I got a bluetooth adapter for my computer and I had problems at the beginning learning how to use all the functions of my bluetooth devices at home with my computer, but after I realized that this adapter can be use for many functions at the same time I was really happy with it.

I bought this adapter to pair my PC with my Motorola HT820 stereo bluetooth headphones since the buy.com description had said: "get your computer wirelessly sharing data with your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone, PDA, stereo headphones, printer and more!". This is not true. Stereo music cuts out so badly it is unusable. I tried downloading the latest drivers. Then I called IOGear tech support. They tried to help but couldn't fix the problem. Then I tried it on a second computer. Then I tried another pair of stereo bluetooth headphones. Nothing works. When I requested a buy.com return RMA number online, it was not available for a credit, just for a replacement since I had opended the package. Don't buy this product if you want stereo bluetooth!

It is my advice that the average consumer stay away from Bluetooth technology right now that requires the use of a USB port. Direct communication between two Bluetooth devices (like a wireless phone to a headset) is overly complicated in my opinion but not so much that the average computer savvy consumer can not get it to work with some patience and the use of a magnifying glass if you are over 40 years of age. That being said, involve a PC USB in the process and you have all the makings for peripheral purgatory. It’s like trying to get the religious right and the ACLU in bed together. Just the thought is ugly. I’m no greenhorn on these matters and for those of you who remember the teeth gnashing frustration of trying to get one of the early PC modems to work with all their cryptic variations of COM and IRQ settings and updated driver versions, welcome back to another age of money snatching technology companies quick to throw out a product and just as quick to pass the buck when it comes to getting their product to work on your PC with anyone else’s product. Now to be fair to the Bluetooth/USB fob folks it is very possible, if not likely, that their technology does work fine. The problem of course is that you will not know for sure until everything actually works and that may not happen for quite some time after you initially install their product. Like trying to slay the many snakes on Medussa’s head without being able to look straight at them, the same is true of the viper nest of control panel devices, drivers, services, system tray icons and OS versions that must all shake hands and agree as to the proper order of things for your Bluetooth product(s) to talk to or through a USB port…something that almost never happens right out of the box in any new technology market built on running a proprietary technology over a free one because the attorneys, money changers and stock optioned execs constantly fight to keep their interests above consumer rights and common sense. In the en you may not be able to blame the Bluetooth adaptor for the problem but if you are like me that will offer cold comfort after hours of downloads, re-boots, right clicks and forum replies. When it comes to Bluetooth running on a USB port now just remember my words…”You’re on you own.“ My advice this Christmas season is to buy the USB communication kit from the wireless device maker. Bluetooth is still in the hands of the money changers, not the consumers.

The IOGear Wireless USB Bluetooh works as advertised. I am very pleased with this product.

I love the IOGEAR Bluetooth adapter. It is easy to install, easy to use. I am able to transfer photos from my phone to my computer, and make SKYPe calls wireless with my Bluetooth headset. I did paid a little extra for this one because the distance is a little longer, I think it worth the extra bucks. From the user manual, it appears that I can listen to my iTune songs through the Bluetooth wireless headphone, I will buy one later to try it.
