Halo 3 is the Third Game in the Halo Trilogy and Provides the Thrilling Conclusion to the Events Begun in Halo: Combat Evolved!

About Halo 3

The epic saga continues with Halo 3, the hugely anticipated third chapter in the highly successful and critically acclaimed Halo franchise. Master Chief returns to finish the fight, bringing the epic conflict between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire human race to a dramatic, pulse-pounding climax.

Halo 3 represents the third chapter in the Halo trilogy--an international award-winning action series that grew into a global entertainment phenomenon, selling more than 14.5 million units worldwide, logging more than 650 million hours of multiplayer action on Xbox Live, and spawning action figures, books, a graphic novel, apparel, an upcoming film adaptation, and more!

The Story So Far...

It is the year 2552. Humanity has long been at war with the terrifying alien civilization that collectively calls itself The Covenant. This monstrous conglomerate of warlike species sees Humanity as a form of heresy against their religion—a religion based in the single-minded belief that a Great Journey awaits its faithful and that this Journey can be embarked upon by activating an array of vast, ring-like artifacts scattered throughout the Galaxy.

These vast, terraformed rings are called Halos and have been long-abandoned by their mysterious and long-vanished creators, The Forerunners.

The war with the Covenant has reduced humanity to ragged tatters. A once-sprawling network of planets is now almost entirely destroyed. Human populations have been decimated and world after world reduced to lifeless rock.

Enter Master Chief

This conflict, terrible and destructive though it is, has been complicated and compounded by a series of cascading events. One of these artificial worlds, these Halos, was discovered and subsequently destroyed by human forces, led by Spartan 117—the Master Chief—the last fighting member of the legendary Spartan II military program and humanity's last, best hope.

A conflict at a second Halo installation became a galaxy-spanning conflagration, as civil war erupted within the Covenant, driven by revelations that the Covenant leadership, The Prophets, had been deliberately deceiving its populace for millennia.

In truth, these Halos would not take the Covenant on a Great Journey, but rather eradicate all sentient life in the Galaxy— created by the Forerunners as weapons of last resort against the most terrifying menace the Galaxy has ever known—and a menace the deluded Covenant has reawakened for the second time in a hundred thousand years. That creeping horror will engulf the Galaxy unless some way can be found to stop it once and for all.

The Flood

That horror is the Flood—a sentient, all-consuming parasite that makes monstrous puppets of those it kills and will not stop until every last thinking creature is absorbed into its ferociously intelligent plan.

The second Halo has been activated, putting all of the remaining installations in a dangerous state of emergency standby—they are primed to fire. Worse still, the Covenant has discovered the long-hidden location of Earth and crushed almost all human resistance, as it seeks vital clues to the nature of the Halo array—some of which may have been hidden under our very feet for untold millennia.

Even with our newfound allies, the Elites, and the leadership of their valiant and honorable leader, The Arbiter, we are still hopelessly outnumbered, as the Prophets set their wills against us—and forces greater than the Covenant, wheel malevolently into place.

As the Master Chief hurtles Earthward in a Forerunner spacecraft, he may be our last chance to stop the Covenant, the Flood and the ticking time bomb that is the Halo network, before every last soul in the Galaxy is destroyed. The stakes have never been higher. It's time to finish the fight.

    Halo 3 - Xbox 360 Review

Halo 3 is fantastic - the best game yet on the Xbox 360 in fact. Bungie has managed to bring a satisfying conclusion to their story arc, expand upon the multiplayer greatness of Halo 2, and pack in new, innovative, and useful features like Theatre and Forge that will have players bashing Grunts and sniping Jackals until the end of the 360's lifecycle and beyond. ...read the full review

There are video games, and then there's Halo. For millions of people around the world, the science fiction FPS is the reason they play games. It's the reason they bought an Xbox. It's the reason they signed up to Xbox Live. Master Chief is their hero, a modern day icon for a modern day generation...Halo 3 transcends video games. It is a global entertainment experience. Just as Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Spiderman 3 brought to a close two of the most lucrative and epic film trilogies of all time, Halo 3 brings to a close perhaps the most complete, engaging and downright fun video game trilogy of all time. There is absolutely no way any Halo fan will be disappointed by this game. - Wesley Yin-Poole

    4 of 5 Great game Monday, August 18, 2008
    A Gamer from Jackson, MS

As usual Halo did not let me down. Game time was GREAT, I hate to buy games which can be beat in a couple hours or even a couple days. No risk of that with Halo. I play all my games on the highest difficulty, and Halo 3 was a little easy in my opinion. On that level of play you should run into at least a couple places per level that consume a good deal of time and thought. I only ran into a couple throughout the game. But with the extended game time it was still a GREAT game. The game should have saved at the checkpoint BUT IT DOES NOT. You have to actually save and exit in order to save your game. I found this out the hard way during a power failure. Lost a good couple hours of game time which had to be replayed.

5 of 5 Viva Master Chief! Saturday, December 15, 2007

Can't type enough good stuff about this game. I have just one complaint. The ranking system is unfair to players that are only casually involved. I haven't heard good things about the social play lists in terms of gamer conduct, but I haven't had any big problems with it so far.

5 of 5 Solo Campaign Review Thursday, December 06, 2007
    A Gamer from Surprise, Arizona
So my review is solely on a solo campaign experience. Great gameplay, but who am I kidding the gameplay has always been good in halo. Improved on and kept the things that made halo a blockbuster in the first place. A lot of new aspects that keep the game challenging. The new weapons/equipment/vehicles are very cool. The graphics/environments are very well done. More visually stunning than I had expected. Personally, I felt the story behind h3 was a lack luster. Also, the ending I felt came too soon and not very well executed. It did bring closure, it just left me with a "That's it?" feeling. Overall I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of halo and/or the genre.

5 of 5 Great Game if you like Halo. Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Gamer from Crestview Hills, KY
If you liked Halo 1 and 2 then you are in for a treat. Halo 3 takes the best from both games and adds its own twist. The multiplayer is great and the online match making makes the game even better. Now you can go online and are matche with people within your skill range.

5 of 5 Another Halo success... Wednesday, November 28, 2007
    Nate P from Phoenix, AZ
I know there are Halo fanboys and Halo haters out there, but either way if you give Halo 3 a try - you can't say it is not a good game. Bungie did a pretty good job of making the campaign - although it still might not be as good as the first Halo - much better this time around compared to Halo 2. The music, as in the whole series, is great. Although I have seen better visuals in a game, this is definitely the best of the Halo series and has moments that you just can't help but stare at the scenery. And then there is the multiplayer... this is definitely the best of the Halo series as far as multiplayer is concerned. Not only do they have the great online matchmaking like that of Halo 2, but there is so much more - and much more depth to the regular online matchmaking by itself. The new ranking system can be almost addictive at times - seeing how highly ranked you can become to earn those higher ranks... if I only had the time to play more! The fact that not only can you do coop for the campaign locally, but you can do it through online, with multiple players! This just adds to re playability within the campaign which I very rarely find I replay campaigns for any game. Then of course the theater, the forge and all these other goodies that are just amazing. Being able to watch your most recent games from ANYWHERE on the entire map, is just simply unbelievable technology and makes for some great video clips or screen shots to be shared with friends. Overall, especially when paired with Xbox Live, this game is one of - if not the - best games I have played and has opened up a whole new level of gaming for the "next gen".

4 of 5 not so great. Monday, October 22, 2007
carbonsnak3 from west palm beach, Fl
I agree to the first person review. One the campain is short. Two the online gets boring after a while. The graphics in this game is pretty amazing and this is based on my normal tube tv. There is some time consuming achievement to unlock. But once again it was too over-hyped. Another game(s) that might take the place of this game would be gears of war or the upcoming mass effect and more.

Not being Halo lifer, but having played the previous iterations a bit, Halo 3 thoroughly impressed me. The graphics, story, and especially gameplay make this a great game. I still haven't played much online, but the solo game and the local multiplayer games are great.

For all the hype this game is not very good. Halo 2 was fast and exciteing this game is slow and dull. Sometimes in matchmakeing i actually find myself board. This is aspecialy true when playing Territories.
