This external HD is actually 1.8Gb so I am a little disappointed on the Manufacture of this HD for marketing as a 2TB HD. Comparing to other HD, I decided to go with this HD because it offer the eSATA connector which other HDs with the same price range dont. The only down fall on this HD operation is the fan noise level which continuously running when it is on. It's noise level is the same as a desktop pc noise during start up. I stored the HD in an enclosed compartment of my desk and I am still bother by it. I wish the HD fan would only kicks up running when it is needed instead of continuously running.

I purchased this to work in tandem with a Linksys WRT610n wireless router (which has a USB port for attaching external storage, and then allowing FTP or network file sharing). This beautiful device worked so perfectly, just a simple twist on the RAID dial, a quick press of "Reset" and the unit is immediately formatted for RAID-0 (mirrored) or any of the other settings. GREAT PRODUCT! My Cavalry CADA-SA2 died in 6 months, I hope this guy doesn't!

I bought this to replace my stand alone media server. I have a MythTV Box in the living room and stored all my media on a separate server. I did not like having 2 computers running 24/7 so I convinced my wife that we needed this. (It is a good thing she can't do cost/payback analysis). It is a nice little setup, aluminum enclosure & all together nice looking. I only have 2 complaints. 1: Enough with the blue LED's already. I do not want/need a super bright blue LED lighting up my entire house. (I live in a cave. No, not that cave.) 2: The fan. It is louder than my server. I can't open the case because it will void my warranty; but the solder pads on the fan are accessible from the outside and I have a 1/4 watt 30 Ohm resistor. . . . . .

This the best value product for this spec. The only thing is the noisy fan. Luckily I only use it when backup my laptop. When switch to Safe mode, make sure you delete the partition and add again to see the correct size.

This drive is the most noisy hard drive I've every heard. I swear there was a hair dryer plugged into the esata port. I thought if i placed it out of the way lower it would be better. It wasn't. After trying to move my iTunes library to this drive it would disappear taking all other esata drives with it. On second try, it happened again. I shipped this thing back as soon as I possibly could. I don't know if the 1TB version of this drive is as noisy, but I'm not about to personally find out.

I got this product yesterday, hooked it up to my laptop and right off the bat, connected the power cord to the back incorrectly because the slot restrictor on the power cord was not adequate. There was no damage to the drive so I am OK with that. After I got the device powered up and connected to my laptop, I could see it in my hardware manager and it did show the entire disk minus partition table space (roughtly 1.8 TB). The drive comes preformatted with FAT32 for what reason I don't know so I had to reformat it with NTFS that supports file/folder compression. I also elected to run it in Safe mode which is RAID 1 and duplicates all data from disk 1 to disk two. It has been formatting since last night at 5:30 PM and it is almost done now at 2:05 PM the next day. My thought is, "What do you expect when formatting so much disk". So, I'm moving on. The only real issue I have with this drive is that the fan is indeed a bit noisy. You wouldn't want this sitting on your desk next to you unless you like white noise. Personally, it is OK with me because I'm going to store it in a ventilated cabinet so the noise will be a moot point for me. However, since this device is as noisy as it is, I had to remove one "overall satisfaction" tick from it's rating. Bottom Line: TWO Terrabits of Data storate (minus partition table) for 200 bucks (after sending in the rebate) is not bad and it very much so meets my needs. Thanks Buy.Com.

The unit set up quickly with my PC running Windows XP. Used it a month and everything works fine. Keep in mind you get only 1.81 TB of storage space as is normal for a "2 TB" drive. Despite others saying it's noisy, I don't find it so. Just a low level of white noise. I've had a 1 TB drive from the same manufacturer for a year now and it's worked well, too. Hence my confidence in buying again from Fantom. Hope this helps.

My thoughts may change, but I think this drive is going back. I have tried to format the drive 6 times now. The drive is VERY loud. High fan noise and plus a high-pitched bearing noise to boot!

Opened the box, pulled out the MegDisk, powered it up, turned the dial to big and pushed the reset button, then connected to my system and I was done. Works flawlessly, fast eSATA connection puts USB and Firewire to shame, software is ok but I rather use Ghost. Great investment and a great price from my favorite store, Buy.com.
