| | | Passwords are a pain.
We’re forced to use passwords to access our online personal accounts (banks, credit cards, email, etc.) and work-related applications (VPN, CRM, etc.). We even have passwords for logging into Windows® and allowing tasks prompted by Vista’s™ User Account Control (UAC). Requirements based on password length and use of capitalization, numbers and symbols result in countless different passwords that are hard to manage. How often do you rely on the “Forget password?” link to have your password emailed to you?
Access at your fingertips.
Accessing your personal accounts is now as simple as swiping your finger. Now that you don’t have to remember or enter passwords, you can create “strong” passwords (long and complex) that are replayed when you swipe your finger, making your personal accounts more secure.
Passwords are vulnerable. In order to cope with countless different passwords, we often write them down on sticky notes or in a spreadsheet. Doing so exposes your personal accounts to someone who walks by your computer, who steals your PC, or who mines for such data online. Using a common password offers thieves a one-stop-shop for the keys to your accounts, while using simple or obvious passwords such as your pet’s name are susceptible to remote hacking.
Nervous about using fingerprints?
Relax. Your fingerprint image is not stored, only a handful of unique features called a “template” which are extracted from your fingerprint and cannot be used to reconstruct an image. Also, concerns related to fingerprints are exaggerated - we leave our fingerprints on objects everyday such as cell phones, drinking glasses, doorknobs, etc. The point is: a simple fingerprint image cannot be used to “spoof” or be “inserted” into a UPEK fingerprint reader.

5 of 5 So much fun! Friday, August 28, 2009 Lena from Nampa, Idaho
I love this product! The options on the software are multiple and advanced. It is very easy to use. I love that Eikon has this portable, plug-right-in option for the biometric security system. This works so well for my laptop. I absolutely love that I can just scan my finger, right there, whether I'm at my desk or on the road, it's always right there. I don't have to worry about so many passwords for all of the websites I visit or my Windows or other logins. I just have to scan!
I also appreciate the security that the software offers when it records the fingerprints. It doesn't actually record a copy of the fingerprint itself; the fingerprint is a "computerized so that reconstructing the original image is not possible".
I would highly recommend this product for anyone to use with their laptop, regardless of your degree of computer savvy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Eikon to go Digtal Thursday, January 15, 2009 A Customer from N. Ogden, UT
This is the simplest, easy way to add biometric security to any computer.
I use it for a laptop that doesn't have it built-in and it works flawlessly.
It's quite flexible and can be used to control access to programs as well as hardware. Was this review helpful?

It's fine. I was just hoping that it'd be more than a semi-useless dongle. It works fairly OK. That said, I need an "extension" cord to get it to be useful. It's also semi-annoying in that it doesn't capture all passwords, etc. especially if it's based in Firefox. The device works as advertised. I just don't care for the whole premise.
