Features: DVD

Destiny in Space is a tribute to the spirit of our continuing exploration of the solar system. Board a satellite in space to look back upon the shuttle orbiting Earth. Join astronauts to deploy and repair the Hubble Telescope. Travel millions of miles to soar above the remarkable contours of Venus and Mars. Finally, find astonishing proof of new planets, and with them the possibility of other life forming around distant stars.

Destiny in Space was filmed in the IMAX format and exhibited in IMAX theaters worldwide. This video version is digitally mastered from original 70MM film elements with the sound components specially mixed and mastered to produce the highest quality Dolby Surround soundtrack.

"...a real life adventure that's much more than Arnold Schwarzenegger ever attempted."  Houston Post
"An astronomical hit."  Chicago Tribune
"The most amazing special effects in any contemporary pic are those in "Destiny in Space," a spectacular IMAX docu..."  Joe Leydon, Variety

Editor's Note

The Hubble Telescope has given people the world over views of other planets that prior to its invention were only dreamed possible. This amazing film examines the telescope as well as the incredible images it captured. Venus and Mars are gloriously photographed. Also included is stunning footage of the telescope being prepared by astronauts floating alongside it. Leonard Nimoy narrates this fascinating look at space exploration, originally shown in the IMAX format.

"...It dazzles not only with sight and sound but also by emphasizing that Earth and all its inhabitants are very tiny speck in a universe so vast it is beyond our ability to comprehend..." 02/09/1996 p.34

DVD Verdict 9 of 10
IMAX: Destiny In Space should pander to the child in all of us. Who among you didn't dream of reaching the furthest ends of the galaxy when you were a child? For those of us who grew up in the heyday of Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and The Last Starfighter, we know what it was like to dream the impossible dream...IMAX: Destiny In Space is a short (clocking in at around 40 minutes) but interesting exploration into space travel and other such themes. IMAX: Destiny In Space includes some interesting facts about space travel; for instance, I never knew that plant life was grown on space shuttles for food, or that bones and muscles must be exercised because there is no support for body weight due to anti-gravity...IMAX: Destiny In Space is packed with all kinds of history and information about different space explorations from all around the globe. If you have a thirst for knowledge on space, NASA, or floating around in rooms without gravity, then IMAX: Destiny In Space is going to be your cup of radioactive Jupiter lava...IMAX: Destiny In Space is an enjoyable film for the astronaut in all of us. Kids will especially like this feature, and will probably be willing to watch it again and again...While I'm sure this film is much more thrilling on the towering IMAX screen, IMAX: Destiny In Space is still a lot of fun...and educational to boot! - Patrick Naugle
