Performs as expected, with no annoying autoloader. Good transfer speed; nice capacity in a compact package, and competitively priced. Only one small dissatisfaction: when the cap is off, it doesn't attach to the unit in any way, so it may be easily lost. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great! Ring problem, Thursday, January 03, 2008 Alex, APPatellis@GMail.com from Florida
Wonderful product, love the color, dows not come tith any thing on it! Best flash drive I ever had! The only thing is the ring is not very solid and it pulls out easly. Be careful. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Small and cheap Tuesday, January 01, 2008 A Customer from Las Vegas
First flash drive I've ordered got lost, but buy.com sent me another right away.. great service..
I haven't done any large file, yet from copying 800mb of data was fairly fast and didn't cause any problem...
It's small and compact... the only problem was the cap.. which started becoming loose and I've lost it somewhere..
Good thing is that I just shorten the strap and hooked it up in my key chain and it's perfect.. Was this review helpful?

Electronically speaking, it seems to perform as well as any other USB flash drive, but physically speaking it is poorly designed.
With the lanyard attached, the protective cap does not fit to "store" on the unit when it is in use. Other flash drives I have are either retractable or have the cap integrated into the product (cover swings away from the USB connection but remains attached). Even on ones for which the cap detaches completely, such as Kingston Data Traveller, the cap fits on the back of the unit to avoid loss. (I probably should have bought the Kingston 4GB, price (no rebate) lower than the DaneElec before DaneElec rebate, but a bit more expensive after rebate.)
Not only that, but the cap and body are made of a "cheap" plastic that seems it would crack or split easily. I take reasonably good care of things like this, but under more rigourous handling I think that at least the cap would be likely to crack.
Finally, the casing is a bit "fat" or oversized, which blocks access to the adjacent USB port on my notebook.
I expect that it will perform its electronic storage function just fine, but the body is poorly and cheaply designed. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 What I wanted Thursday, December 13, 2007 graysnowman2003@yahoo.com from Larimore, ND
Works just as described. My husband and I each have separate computers and use the drive to easily transfer data from one computer to the other. We even transfer movies. Was this review helpful?

This is an excellent thumb drive for large files, however it is too wide to fit alongside another USB device on my laptop, so an extension cable is needed. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Resonable performance for the price Saturday, December 08, 2007 A Customer from York, PA
The unit formats to 4.1G, sightly higher than advertised, with a read speed of about 12MB/sec and write speed of about 3.3MB/sec. This is typical for low priced units and not unexpected. The cap secures firmly and in fact can be a pain to remove if your hands are slippery as the case is smooth and without finger grips. It is small enough that it does not interfere with adjacent USB ports having standard spacing. It comes with a lanyard cord. Was this review helpful?

I have purchased 4G External Hard Drives recently, but they have had a difficult time moving over large files without overheating or failing. The Dane-Elec 4GB zMate Pen High-Speed USB 2.0 Drive worked REALLY GREAT. It was instantly recognized by my computer (running Windows XP) and moved large files in a snap. Didn't have to worry about the drive getting hot. It doesn't hang out of the computer or need an extension like the larger sized external drives. Just plugged it into my computer's 2.0 USB port and copied away without incident!!! It's great that it doesn't have some awful software attached to it. I love the compact size of these. I can store a number of them without taking up too much space. In case you are prone to losing things, the Pen High-Speed USB 2.0 Drive comes with a bright silver cord so you can hang it around your neck. I purchased 4 of these and they are all working well. Would not hesitate to purchase more. I have purchased other Dane-Elec Products in the past and have no complaints about any of them. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Monday, June 18, 2007 SP from Chicago, IL
It's a standard 4GB thumb drive. Works great, no problems at all. It's a little smaller than some of the ones I've owned. Comes with a cheapie vinyl necklace attachment which has come in handy. Never heard of this manufacturer before, but I would recommend this device. Great price. Was this review helpful?

This 4GB Dane is my third Dane Flash Drive. Was quite pleased with the 512MB and 1GB versions so I opted for the 4GB version. Am using it for extra storage with an old Dell laptop that only has a 6GB hard drive. Works great! Does not work with Vista ReadyBoost but from what I've read ReadyBoost is overated as it only gives a 4-6% file access speed increase. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 werks like a charm Wednesday, June 06, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, CA
I took advantage of the free shiping and it took over a week to get here but in between there was the Memorial Day holiday weekend. So take that into consideration. The device is super small and very sleek. Although only used it 4 or 5 times, I love it. It is a heck of a deal. Buying one for my Mom for her birthday. 4 Gigs and inexpensive.
