| | | EXTENDER FOR WINDOWS® MEDIA CENTER
The DSM-750 is an Extender for Windows Media Center that allows you to stream media content from a Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate OS-based PC to a High-Definition TV (HDTV) or Standard-Definition TV (SDTV). Windows Media Center delivers a breathtaking visual experience to your TV and allows easy browsing of your music, photo, and video collection with its intuitive navigation menu. Additionally, Windows Media Center allows you to access and enjoy a large and growing catalog of online entertainment, sports, and news content—all from the comfort of your living room.
D-LINK MEDIALOUNGE MEDIA PLAYER MODE
The DSM-750 also includes a MediaLounge Media Player mode, which allows a Windows XP OS-based PC to stream music, photos, and videos. This mode also enables streaming of music, photos, and videos stored on a Networked Attached Storage or USB Flash Drive.
WATCH LIVE OR RECORDED TV
If your Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate OS-based PC has an integrated TV tuner, you can watch live TV or record a TV program with Windows Media Center, which features an Electronic Programming Guide that provides schedules for both subscription-based cable/satellite and terrestrial (over-the-air) programming. You can even pause or rewind live TV.
WIRELESSLY STREAM HD CONTENT WITH DRAFT 802.11N AND MEDIABAND TECHNOLOGY
The DSM-750 supports HD video resolutions of up to 1080 so you can enjoy life-like picture quality on your 1080p-capable HDTV. To allow steady streaming of HD content over a wireless network, the DSM-750 utilizes draft 802.11n technology, which provides faster speeds and farther reception compared to 802.11g. Since a majority of wireless devices use the 2.4GHz band, the DSM-750 also utilizes MediaBand technology, which provides the option of using the 5GHz band to help minimize interference with common wireless devices, thus improving streaming performance.
HD VIDEO PLAYBACK
The DSM-750 supports HD video in either Windows Media Video 9 or MPEG-2/4 format. Enjoy videos with resolutions of up to 1080p for life-like picture quality from your HDTV. The DSM-750 includes both HDMI and Component Video outputs, providing flexible connectivity to your HDTV (HDMI and Component Video cables sold separately). It also works with standard definition televisions with S-Video or Composite Video inputs (Composite Video cables included).
The D-Link MediaLounge DSM-750 offers the best of both worlds since it can be used as an Extender for Windows Media Center or a Wireless HD Media Player using MediaLounge. Whichever mode you choose, you will be able to enjoy your digital media content on your big screen TV.

With the latest firmware (1.02) for this product, I had high hopes... unfortunately D-Link has let me down again.
First off, the device is absolutely unuseable for music... the audio output on all connections is muted in-between tracks which causes the first second or two of every song to be clipped off.
On the video side, plain old Standard def Xvid/Dvix files do not play smoothly in UPnP/USB mode. In Windows Extender mode, the same files play fine but without 5.1 sound. The strange thing here is that these very same files played fine on D-Link's older 520 device!
I contacted D-Link support, but as usual, they have been slow to respond and based on my past experiences with the 320 and 520, I know that it is a good bet that these performance issues may never be adressed so I am doing the safe thing and I will be returning this unit. Was this review helpful?

I have purchased this DLink Extender and am enjoying it.
Pros:
The product does play all of the video formats
Connects right up to Windows Media Center
I use this with the Linksys WRT610N 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ dual band router and it connects to both.
Cons:
The wireless range is just ok
Best performance is definitely wired.

The unit shipped to me initially didn't work, I think it was just the remote control that was not communicating to the unit. Shipped the whole thing back to D_Link and they *quickly* cross shipped me a new unit which works just fine.
We love it! The trick is to have a nice strong wireless N network. We watch live TV (non HD at this point) broadcast from the computer without any glitches. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Not ready for prime time Wednesday, May 14, 2008 A Customer from Winchester, VA
I ordered two DSM-750 devices working with the D-Link DIR-855 dual band router. There seems to be an issue with the wireless performance on the version 1.0 hardware for the DIR-855 so that the 5GZ band is not available and there is poor performance on the 2.4GZ band. D-Link identified this issue with a small batch of these routers, but the issue seems to be related to the full 1.0 release. the second hardware revision is due out in June '08.
No way to write a reasonable review without the system working as advertized Was this review helpful?
