The Magic of Narnia Returns.

The magical world of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy comes to life once again in Prince Caspian, the second installment of The Chronicles of Narnia series. Join Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy, the mighty and majestic Aslan, friendly new Narnian creatures and Prince Caspian as they lead the Narnians on a remarkable journey to restore peace and glory to their enchanted land. Continuing the adventure of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe with more magic and a brand-new hero, Prince Caspian is a triumph of imagination, courage, love, joy and humor your whole family will want to watch again and again.

"...the kind of grandly old-fashioned entertainment we don't get enough of anymore."  Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News
"...a more polished effort than "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"..."  Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
"Several shades darker in tone than the previous edition...the return to Narnia still casts a transporting spell."  Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter
"A glorious medieval war movie. It's about war as the ultimate pitch of conflict that tries men's souls, and women's, too."  Michael Sragow, Baltimore Sun
"...a bit darker, more conventional and more crisply made than its 2005 predecessor."  Todd McCarthy, Variety

Editor's Note

Based on the second novel in C.S. Lewis's beloved CHRONICLES OF NARNIA series, PRINCE CASPIAN finds the four Pevensie children--Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes), and Lucy (Georgie Henley)--once again whisked away from WWII-era England into the realm of Narnia, where the siblings once ruled as royalty. However, the Pevensies soon discover that 1,300 years have passed since they left, and the world is now controlled by the Telmarines, humans who long ago banished the magical creatures of Narnia to the wilderness. When the heir to the Telmarine throne, Caspian (Ben Barnes), survives an assassination attempt plotted by his scheming uncle, Miraz (Sergio Castellitto), the noble youth stumbles across Narnia's exiled enchanted population, and decides to lead them in an uprising, aided by Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy.

Considerably darker and more action-packed than THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE, this 2008 sequel, once again directed by Andrew Adamson, is driven by the struggle between the Telmarines and the banished Narnians, resulting in many fierce battle sequences. While the newcomer Barnes and the established quartet of Moseley, Popplewell, Keynes, and Henley are all in fine form, CASPIAN is largely enhanced by its supporting cast, which includes indie mainstay Peter Dinklage as the dour dwarf Trumpkin and revered British comedian Eddie Izzard as the voice of the swashbuckling mouse Reepicheep. Also briefly reprising their roles from the previous film are Liam Neeson, as the voice of Aslan, and Tilda Swinton, as the White Witch, actors who bring their familiar personas to this engaging and entertaining second chapter in the NARNIA saga.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - DVD Review

In Clerks II, uber-slacker Randal described the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a series of endless walks. Nothing but nonstop, pointless treks. One has to wonder what his reaction would be to the overwhelming ambulation in the two Chronicles of Narnia films. While The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe had origins and mythos to highlight, Disney's latest entry in the franchise, Prince Caspian, requires a more minimal setup. All returning director Andrew Adamson has to offer as a result is more shoe to footpath action, with the occasional CGI-sparked battle to break up the constant strolling....read the full review

"[A] fierce and somber battle epic....As the soldiers pick up their broadswords and begin to slash and plunge, PRINCE CASPIAN seizes, and holds, your attention..." 05/23/2008 p.102-103

USA Today
3 stars out of 4 -- "The production design is lavish, the cinematography lovely and the world of woodland creatures beautifully crafted." 05/17/2008

Los Angeles Times
"Using a cast and crew of close to 2,000 and some of the best special effects houses in the world...PRINCE CASPIAN is very much the kind of adventure epic that believes you can never have too much galloping." 05/16/2008

New York Times
"PRINCE CASPIAN is quite a bit darker than THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, both in look and mood. It is also in some ways more satisfying." 05/16/2008

Empire
"The well-staged battle scenes recall a multi-species BRAVEHEART and there's a sense of real lives at stake..." 07/01/2008 p.46-48

In Clerks II, uber-slacker Randal described the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a series of endless walks. All returning director Andrew Adamson has to offer as a result is more shoe-to-footpath action, with the occasional CGI-sparked battle to break up the constant strolling...There's no denying one simple truth: if you loved the first installment in the cinematic realization of C. S. Lewis' veiled religious allegories, you'll adore Prince Caspian...Naturally, the battles win us over, though Adamson won't earn any awards for his busy, frequently flashy camera trickery with too much obvious animation in the fray...Indeed, the main problem with Prince Caspian is the lack of true transcendence. All great epics find a way to take the traditions and truisms that define their premise and amplify their meaning and sense of universality. As viewers, we suddenly recognize, and feel the innate power in, such small virtues. On the page, The Chronicles of Narnia thrived on such fiery faith-based fantasy. On film, said belief is rendered bland. - Bill Gibron

Rolling Stone 7 of 10
The sequel is livelier, with more action heat in it than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe -- the first of the films being made from C.S. Lewis' seven Narnia books. But that 2005 box-office hit should have taught a lesson. Lewis wrote with a Christian agenda, and Walden Media, releasing these films through Disney, is similarly committed. Step up for Prince Caspian, and what you get is a PG rating, family values, battles without blood and an animated lion named Aslan standing in for the resurrected Jesus and voiced by Liam Neeson. No sense in complaining that you're watching Lord of the Rings lite. That's the point. So where were we? In Narnia, 1,300 years have passed. But a mere year has zipped by for the four Pevensie children...The British Barnes, 26, makes a dashing hero, despite wrestling with a Spanish accent. But human actors don't stand a chance against a sword-fighting mouse (voiced by Eddie Izzard) and assorted bears, badgers, giants, Minotaurs and centaurs -- all chatty as hell. Two exceptions are Peter Dinklage, as a smartass dwarf, and Tilda Swinton, fresh from her Michael Clayton Oscar, making a frustratingly brief return as the White Witch. They offer devilish fun...If anything, this sequel could have used more hellfire. You leave feeling covered in a blanket of bland. - Peter Travers
