2 of 5 Failed exactly a year after purchase Thursday, July 10, 2008
Brian from Harrisburg, PA

I was really happy with this drive until it failed a year to the date after I purchased it. While it was running it worked great. This is the first drive that I have ever had fail, and doing so a year into its life does not seem acceptable to me.

5 of 5 Great value, simple to use, works well with Window Friday, December 14, 2007
Steve G from Alexandria VA
Best value for the cost per memory ($/Gbyte). Allows connecting to Windows XP notebook with 1000+ iTunes purchased songs, then to Windows Vista desktop for photos, videos. Can schedule automatic back ups and turn on just before scheduled back-up.

2 of 5 software did not work Sunday, December 02, 2007
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
The included PC Clone software is buggy and would not allow me to make changes to do incremental backups or backup specific folders. With the OTB drive is powered on the software would run a full backup continuously. It would run and finish then restart and run and finish then restart.... Talked with software support and after 3 weeks of working with them and using 3 different versions of the software, they think it is a hardware issue. Uninstalled the software and used Windows to back up to the drive.

5 of 5 So far, so good Wednesday, November 28, 2007
BP from Apple Valley, MN
I purchased this to use as an external drive for my DVR (a Moxi). It worked well right out of the box and has performed flawlessly for 2 months.

4 of 5 Running on Windows Vista Home Premium Thursday, September 27, 2007
Sidney Kent from Seattle, WA
Received the Hard drive and plugged it it. It was recognized instantly by Windows Vista. I am able to drag and drop files to the drive without problem. When I went to run the included CD that is neeeded to install the One Touch software, I received an error message. I called Cavalry tech support (Cavalry not the 3rd party company listed for technical support) and they told me the pc clone software included will not work with Windows Vista. They are sending me "Regen" software that works with Vista. It has full functionality but will not work with the One Touch button. I have just started using the hard drive. So far it is quiet and fast. A good buy. It will (hopefully) be great when the new software arrives.

4 of 5 Cavalry 500 GB external hard drive Friday, August 17, 2007
A Customer from cortez. co
This is not a bad little unit. I was able to rather readily transfer my files to it. These included music, photos, documents and so forth. There were a couple of issues. One, the base that came with the unit is not the correct one. THe holes in the base do not line up with the holes in the unit, and the screws that came to secure the base to the unit were too short. The second issue was that after hooking it in and turning on the switch, the unit did not come on. This occurred several times. Following the instructions in the sequence of hooking this up may be the reason why it didn't come on at first. The instructions say to plug it in last. I did this. The unit did not come on. Instead, I ended up disconnecting the USB line, then turned it on, then connected the USB line and it finally turned on (which is not how the instructions were, so perhaps the instructions need to be redone). Other than that, the unit seems to be working in a satisfactory manner. (It does turn on now - for the moment).

3 of 5 slow! Monday, August 13, 2007
A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
I have to say I am very disappointed at the real-world performance of this drive. I have only used FireWire 400 drives with my Macs and thought the USB 2.0 drive would be comperable (rated faster than Firewire 400!) I am shocked at how slow this drive is with my data-transfer tests. Head-to-head with a Seagate firewire drive, data transfer copying large files was a fraction of the speed of firewire (about 1/10!). I don't know if it's the USB 2.0 technology or this drive!

4 of 5 It's a good one, overall. Monday, August 13, 2007
A Customer from State College, PA
I'm very satisfied with this hardware, except that it won't be able to connect with the PC after the OS restarting. It can be find if you shut down the PC and turn it on again.

5 of 5 Exactly What I Wanted Monday, August 13, 2007
Nick from Roseville, MN
I wanted a huge amount of storage for cheap and that is exactly what I got. Plugged it in and had an instant 500gb of extra storage. No problems at all so far. Transfer rates are very reasonable, it is quiet, and runs only a little warm. The LED is fairly bright if you want to sleep around it or something, but you can either cover it up with tape or flip the switch in the back to off and it will no longer blind you. I've used about 130gb so far and nothing has had problems transferring or reading. Highly recommended.
