Would have been great if it wasn't for Vista. Totally worthless purchase. Hope I at least get my rebate. Would only be a $5 mistake. Was this review helpful?

The product summary doesn't state that this product ONLY works for xp to vista. I only have xp, so this product is useless. I have to eat return shipping fees because the product description is unclear. Was this review helpful?

Can only be used to transfer files between XP and Vista. You could do that over the network itself. Was this review helpful?

I'm going to dump my files to a CD and reload them on my new Vista laptop. I couldn't get the drivers to be recognized off the CD that came with the cable. There don't appear to be any drivers to match the cable on the vendor's support site. I've wasted enough hours trying to save time. What a waste! Was this review helpful?

In the time it takes to install the software I could have copied my data onto an external hard drive - and then onto my new machine. Nice idea, but probably not worth the money. As other reviewers have noted, the product description could be a bit more clear. This cable has one use only - upgrading an XP (SP2) machine to a Vista machine. Was this review helpful?

The software installed without a hitch on my XP machine (it's built into Vista, so no need to install it there), and the transfer was quick and easy. This transfers files and settings, letting you choose which to transfer and which to ignore. It does not transfer programs; Microsoft offers a free download of beta software to transfer programs using this cable, but it didn't work for me. That's clearly the fault of the beta software, though, and not this product. I highly recommend this product if you have a lot of data to transfer from an XP machine to a Vista machine. I don't even want to think about how much time and how many CDs it would have taken me to do it without the cable! Was this review helpful?

This cable DOES NOT transfer files between PCs.... it's use pretty much only limits to doing an XP to Vista Upgrade "one-time" use cable..... Since it'll ONLY tranfer files and stuff from an XP PC to a Vista PC..... Completely Useless..... Was this review helpful?

This product may work just fine, but you don't need it. Even if you don't have a router, you can use ONE CAT5 cable between two computers, and transfer all your files at 100MB per second. You can already transfer between any Windows 98, XP, or Vista, and NO extra software is needed. In the old days we used a cross-over CAT5 cable (two of the eight wires were crossed at one end). Now, any CAT5 cable will work. You can find them for three bucks, just about anywhere. If you are still bent on adding more software (the USB cable wizard) to your crowded list, get this cable. Even if it doesn't work, it only cost $4, OR save your money and use any CAT5 cable; plug it into your RJ-45 connector (on each computer), and read Windows 'HELP' menu (make a direct network connection). If you have more than two computers, buy a cheap router and hook them all together. You don't need the internet either, (you can hook that up later, if you want to).
Hope this helps save you time and money. (I never have enough of either.) Was this review helpful?

This USB transfer cable (CP-U2V-02) has a micro chip in it and was programmed for XP to Vista only. It will not work for XP to XP transfer.
CP Technologies does have another product supports XP to XP transfer. (Please note that CP-U2N-02 will not work for XP to Vista) The model number is: CP-U2N-02
USB 2.0 Network/File Transfer Cable
- network adapter ( CP-U2N-02 )
Hope this information helps. Was this review helpful?

I expected that I can use this cable to connect my two Windows XP computers to transfer my data. However, it looks like this cable helps you to transfer files and settings from Windows XP to Windows Vista. I think, however, that it is possible to transfer files from any computer that supports USB to any computer that supports USB. It occurred it is not straightforward and easy. Although I don't give up and I hope that it is possible to use this cable to connect two computers supporting any USB connection, I haven't managed to make use of this cable. Temporarily I gave up. So be warned that you may encounter troubles if you want to use this cable to connect two Windows XP computers to transfer files as I tried without success. It is not straightforward and may be impossible (although it is odd for me since this is only a cable). Was this review helpful?

It seems like a simple concept but apparently hooking up two computers and transferring files via a USB cord is difficult. It took me several attempts and me uttering "This is the last time before I give up" before the cord finally worked.
I could not get an XP to XP transfer to work at all, which wasn't my goal but I figured it would be nice to transfer to a laptop and then from my laptop to my new Vista machine so I could see the progress on both ends. Eventually I tried XP to Vista, still had several failures at various points in the process before finally transferring.
My biggest wish is that it could turn my old computer into a USB hard drive for a while so I could copy the files at will but in the name of automation is has to be an 8 hour, hold everything, ordeal of a transfer. An external hard drive would have been infinitely easier, but of course costlier. Still, I would consider that as an option before making a purchase. Was this review helpful?

I purchased this to copy files from my parents old PC to their new PC. The software was easy to install on their old Windows XP computer. The new PC must be running Vista, which already contains the software. The transfer rate is very slow, possibly because USB 1.0 mode was being used. It also kept stopping during the transfer, which made it unusable. Furthermore, you cannot use the PCs for anything else while the transfer is in progress.
If you only want to copy files, I recommend using a LAN connection. This software does have the ability to copy user and profile information, which I didn't try as it is easy to create new user accounts. You still have to install all of the application software on the new Vista PC.

I cannot review this product because my computers run either
XP or XP Pro and this transfer cable was designed for VISTA.
Your offer did not mention this. The link which described the
cable showed a different price which led me to believe that what was shown was an upgrade of the USB 2 cable that you would
ship me

5 of 5 Easiest way to transfer files to a new computer. Friday, December 14, 2007 A Customer from Houston, TX
I used it for setting up a new laptop that I just bought. Not quite as easy as just plugging both ends in but if you follow the step by step instructions provided, it's pretty simple.
At full price I would probably go to the trouble of using an alternate transfer means but I got this at a steal. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Waste of money. Friday, December 14, 2007 Bill from Bensenville, IL
I suppose that it works fine if you want to transfer stuff from XP to Vista, which I will do in the future. My immediate need was to move files between XP to XP environments. Software loaded ok and found cable, but hard work with and had to use the advance function to move files between XP systems didn't work. Hard to find manufacturing support web site, and product not even listed. Don't buy this product unless you plan to use it for XP to Vista transfer only. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Got confused Friday, December 14, 2007 A Customer from Hartford
I got confused while buying this product. This wire can be used only and only if you want to transfer data from Windows XP SP2 to Windows Vista. Infact, the wire cannot be used for transferring back from Vista to XP SP2. Technical Description says compatible both with XP SP2 and Vista. Thats where I got confused. I was trying to transfer from XP SP2 to XP SP2 between different systems but it didn't work. At least for me the value and ease of use is no more than 2. This product might work good between Vista and XP SP2 (only XP SP2 --> Vista) Was this review helpful?

3 of 5 Great price IF your rebate shows up Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from Kansas City
I'm still waiting on the rebate from the CP Technologies wireless router I bought from Buy.Com back at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, you can't count on actually receiving the promised refund these days since so many companies seem to intent on beating you out of it instead of delivering what they promise.
My rule of thumb any more is "if it's a good deal without the rebate, go for it." But I don't count on getting the rebate - at least half the time it either doesn't show up at all or you have to waste your time calling and/or writing letters to get it. I've got better things to do. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 A good product but takes some patience Tuesday, November 27, 2007 phil@yigcomputers.com from Buffalo, NY
I am a computer reseller, so I tried this product for making it easy to transfer settings and data to new computers. The product did fine, but it's not without some drawbacks. First of all, the instructions for using with Windows XP is confusing. Once that's done, the transfer worked fine. The included software uses Microsoft's "file and transfer" wizard/software. As a result, you get most of the data and settings you want, but not all of it. A MUCH better approach is Laplink's "PC Mover" software which transfers programs AND data and does a more complete job. Overall, this is a very good product at a good price and most users will be pleased. Was this review helpful?
