5 of 5 First time NAS user Wednesday, July 08, 2009
Dan from Polson, Montana

This was my first attempt at using a NAS so I required a little extra help that I didn't feel was in the setup instructions. I usually don't like reading instructions because they make me more confused and generally take away from the time I need to play with my new toy. In this case, however, I went to the instructions for some setup help and didn't find it. However, the drive and install software were able to compensate for my shortcomings and got the job done in spite of me. I was able to set up multiple shared folders with multiple groups and users which suited my needs just fine. The RAID 1 was a breeze to set up too. I'll look for this brand and model again if I ever need one.

4 of 5 Good NAS product. Saturday, April 11, 2009
A Customer from WA
Overall I would say this is a good product. I tweaked the network settings to use jumbo framing on my LAN (router supported this) but it would keep locking the NAS up every couple of days, and I would have to remove power to it to get it back up and working. I changed it back to the default MTU and have had no problems with it since. The web based utility used to remotely logon to my NAS worked as advertised. I didn't use the NasNavi program that came with the product. After I installed it, I realized that I didn't need it (it used up a lot of RAM as well) so I deleted it.

4 of 5 Great Box, so-so support Sunday, March 29, 2009
A Customer from Arlington, VA
This is a great device and the price for the amount of space is amazing! We tried to use the UPS shutdown feature with a CyberPower 1350, but could not get it to work. Buffalo has a US support phone number and we reached a technician quickly - but he started off by telling me this was not a feature in the device; once I read the box and documentation to him, he put me on hold and did some research. He came back with a pointless set of things to try. He promised to get their "wizard" to call me back, but they never did. Also, we had some initial trouble with username/password access in a non Active Directory setup, but that's more of a Microsoft issue. Overall, the price, performance, and features make this a great device and we will continue to recommend them to our small business customers.

4 of 5 You get what you pay for... and a little bit more Monday, February 23, 2009
A Customer from va
My Use: I use the NAS for storing some of my media on for remote access. I also keep all of my classwork for college on it. It is set-up for backing up my main system. I have set-up private folders for a few of my friends to dump to. --- Pros: Mirror RAID set-up was easy. Admin software ok. Security is ok. Pretty quick transfers across the local. Sturdy build. --- Cons: Buffalonas.com is kinda useless. They don't allow you to upload multiple files at once. It does keep up with your IP if you are dynamic. Inbeded FTP sucks use SmartFTP. Power button is TINY and hidden on the back Sucks down more than the advertised 21w, more like 30 average. --- Opinion: For a basic NAS I'm happy. Features for cost ratio is pretty good.

4 of 5 Awesome Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Nitin from Irvine, CA
I share this drive between Windows 2k, XP and Linux (Ubuntu) machines. Installation was a breeze. On Ubuntu, used "cifs" to mount the network drive. Read "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountWindowsSharesPermanently" and use only the cifs instructions. Other methods did not work. Very quiet. The included backup software does not allow for the network drive to be a source. It can only be destination.

5 of 5 Great NAS solution for the price Tuesday, February 17, 2009
A Customer from Naperville, IL
I shopped around quite a bit for a good NAS solution. Overall, I liked the features of this unit. For the money, I think it’s a great value. I used the documentation to set things up. For the most part, initial setup was easy. The only part that I had some issues with was setting up the web access (which was part of the reason I went NAS). There are a couple of different areas you have to go to in order to set up web access. You also have to set up passwords. The problem is, it’s not clear in the documentation that all of these things have to be done at once in order for the web access to work. However, I will give kudos to their tech support. They’re available 24X7X365. When I called, they were very helpful and we resolved the issue in a matter of minutes. Overall, I’m very satisfied. No regrets.

5 of 5 Works great, but... Saturday, January 31, 2009
A Customer from Erlanger, KY
I wish the setup information would be more informative. I have a Vista desktop and trying to follow the brief Quick Setup Guide and also their web FAQ section was not really helpful. I was pretty much left on my own to experiment until I had the NAS setup for RAID1 and able to actually put files on the system. I am not an expert in networking or installing a NAS, maybe that explains my frustration. But in the end, it works as advertised, it's quiet, works fast enough for backing up files and the best of all, it is a very cost effective package.

5 of 5 Nice NAS Storage Monday, January 26, 2009
A Customer from Greensboro, NC
I have tried and used several external drives and ALL of them seem to have some sort of issue staying connected or extremely slow. This one so far has been up since it was installed and the speed is fair. The setup was easy. I would recommend this device!!

Really happy with The Linkstation. Very easy to set up and go. Also came with Memeo auto backup software which works great. Use it to backup lots of art files and photos. Great storage solution for the price.

5 of 5 Easy, Secure, 1TB Raid 1 Storage (2 - 1TB Drives) Tuesday, October 21, 2008
A Customer from Macungie, PA
In raid 1 you get 1TB of redundant storage space that is easy to set up and use for both PC and MAC. For the price, you cannot beat the value you get.

4 of 5 Buffalo LinkStation - A Great Product! Monday, October 06, 2008
Scott Fuller from Derry, NH
After suffering not one but two catastrophic hard drive failures in the preceeeding 5 months, each 500GB drives more than half full of information, I went looking for a NAS backup solution. I found and purcahsed the Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo 2TB Hard Drive - 10/100/1000 Mbps, SATA, 7200 RPM, RJ-45 - Network Hard Drive which came with free Memeo software. What a great solution and at a reasonable price, I just wish I had known about it sooner. A little better documentation to assist with configuration might be nice but once I had it configured in RAID 1 (mirroring), I started having much better nights sleep and it backups files as they change so there is no need to ever remember to start the backup. I'd recommend this solution to any home user and/or small business user.

5 of 5 Great Little NAS Box Tuesday, July 29, 2008
tjpalmquist from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania
I needed a NAS unit to use as an archiving device for our network boxes. Unit was easy to setup and works like a charm, even with the Unix and Linux machines. It was on line immeiately and worked as stated. I did have to set it for RAID 1 but that only took a couple of moments. I didn't care for the archiving software that was bundled with it. I'm using Acronis for the windows machine and BackupEdge for Unix & Linux both use compression and were very speedy. I backed up 37GB from portable in 20 minutes.

4 of 5 Great for backups if you have the time Tuesday, July 01, 2008
Scott Tucker from Alpharetta
Very easy setup but very very very slow...... Did I mention slow.... It is great if you have a full 24 hours to backup around 120 GB. It may just be that I was backing up large files (4.5 GB). Some units do not do well with these files. Overall I am satisfied with the product strictly as a backup device and not as a NAS device
