Features: DVD, Widescreen, Dolby Digital (5.1), Deleted Scenes

Wesley Snipes stars as the tortured soul Blade--half-man, half-immortal. Blade sharpens his lethal skills under the guidance of Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), his mentor, guardian and fellow hunter of the night. When the blood-thirsty Immortals' lord, Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), declares war on the human race, Blade is humanity's last hope for survival.

"Big as it is, Blade is meticulous and subtle..."  Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
"...an expert balancing act... "  Mike DeWolfe, Apollo Leisure Guide

Editor's Note

Based on the comic book of the same name, BLADE (Snipes) is a half-mortal, half-immortal bent on avenging his mother's death and destined to rid the earth of a race of vampires. Meanwhile, the modern-day technologically advanced vamps he's targeted are in pursuit of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race. A dark action thriller from the director of DEATH MACHINE and the writer of THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS and DARK CITY with plenty of blood and guts.

...don't dismiss Blade as a typical thriller or as some kind of inflated style piece -- there's more than that going on. Big as it is, Blade is meticulous and subtle, not just in its camera technique but in the way it works its themes and creates a mood... I love the way director Stephen Norrington uses odd little one- and two-second shots. Sometimes he does it to convey information. For example, he suggests that a woman might be turning into a vampire by giving us a split-second, overexposed shot of the street as seen through her eyes. Are her eyes getting sensitive to bright light, by any chance?... As Blade, Snipes looks great. What an outfit: black leather coat, leather vest, black sunglasses, Grace Jones hairstyle. Like Jean-Claude Van Damme, this is one action hero who is not going to let a life-and-death struggle with the forces of evil get in the way of his weekly salon appointments. I admire that. - Mick LaSalle

Apollo Leisure Guide 0 of 10
This movie has all the energy and style of a music video. The action grabs you during the opening credits, and runs headlong through the movie, slowing only long enough to let you catch up. Of the many vampire films of late, this one stands out; the story is an expert balancing act of foundation-laying and flash-bang action. Snipes is entertaining as a "Rambo the Vampire Hunter.' The other performances are equally strong and believable. The story is smart and Stephen Norrington's direction is slick and effective. - Mike DeWolfe

4 of 5 BLADE 1- MARVEL-4 (5 soon!) Wednesday, June 19, 2002
mistaeyeball from Washington, DC

This movie was the rebirth of the Marvel Comics movie. Think about it, remember the Flops "Captain America" & "Punisher"? No? No big surprise there. Blade broke down the walls for Marvel comics, with Blade 1 & 2, X-men (and 2 soon), SPIDERMAN, and soon the Hulk (Ang Lee, baby!), and help America remember that a movie based on a comic book can be something more than men in tights with one liners that even Ol' Arnie wouldn't spout. If you have never seen this movie definately rent it before plunging into the purchase, for even though it is an entertaining movie, I wouldn't call it an all time great (though Blade 2 was a bit better) Wesly Snipes had definitely found his nitch. One word of caution: Then ending is a bit weak (and they learned from that in the #2) so don't have super high expectations for this one. In the end the movie is what it is. Definately worth the watch.

2 of 5 Forget Blade 1 and wait for Blade II Sunday, May 26, 2002
imaguy2 from NYC
After watching Blade II in theater, Blade I is NOTHING. The two film are so different, its like Heaven and Hell. BII was soooo good. I even wonder why the the first one was made. The action sequnces in BII are so impressive, BI looks like a cheap B movie. I like Weasly Snipes movies, but BI does him no justice. Just wait a while and get Blade II, forget wasting money on Blade I and get some other DvDs.

5 of 5 Fantastic DVD Features Thursday, October 14, 1999
Kevin from Milwaukee, WI
This was a great DVD! The extra features really made the movie for me. This one has TONS of extra stuff including the history of vampires and an alternate ending, plus the director's audio track. This is what DVD is all about.

5 of 5 The New SuperHero Thursday, September 02, 1999
James T. Money from Sacramento CA
This movie is great. Blade is the new super hero on the block. This movie had more of an impact on me than the first Batman movie that came out in the 80's which was a lot. If you remember the way you felt when you first saw The Dark Knight you will feel ten times more energized when you watch Blade!

5 of 5 Vampires at their best Tuesday, August 17, 1999
Roland Michelli from Honolulu, HI
If I had the chance to make a Vampire movie, this is exactly what I would done. The choice of actors was excellent, and Wesley Snipes does not disappoint in this one. Absolutely the best modern-day vampire flick I've ever seen, and I've seen 'em all!

4 of 5 Blade, Overdone Violence Friday, July 02, 1999
Ed Devlin from Farmville VA
What ever happened to vampire films that created a sense of terror without having to turn to overdone violence? I found Blade a well made, pretty well acted film that was almost too voilent to watch. Now, granted much of the violence was comic-book style, but there was lots of it. I would bump it a rating higher than R because of the violent content.

5 of 5 A new twist on traditional vampires Saturday, June 26, 1999
A Viewer from Cloutierville Louisiana
Blade is definitely a vampire movie of the 20th century. Not only does it put a twist on what we think of traditional vampires but it also gives us one to look up to. A vampire being the protaganist in the movie is one of the most clever plots ever. Blade is one of the most action packed movies out. I recommend this movie to any one no matter what type of movies you prefer.

5 of 5 Blade is what a DVD should be like. Tuesday, June 15, 1999
Snowman from Ocean Springs MS
This movie is excellent but what makes it even better is all the extra's New Line put into it reasserting themselves on top of the DVD food chain. The alternate ending is excellent as well as the commentary. Wonderful!

5 of 5 Adrenaline Pumping Action Thursday, May 27, 1999
Justin Derrick from Rochester Ny
Blade is by far one of, if not the best action movie of recent or past history. The non stop thrill ride grabs your heart and squeezes, and makes you like it. There should be a warning for those who have heart conditions.
