| Chris Isaak begins his third decade as one of the most distinctive recording artists—and the epitome of modern cool—with his first career-spanning retrospective. Best Of Chris Isaak CD features every hit, led by "Wicked Game," and including many fan favorites such as "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing," plus four previously unreleased tracks: an acoustic "Forever Blue," a cover of Cheap Trick’s "I Want You To Want Me" and two new Isaak-penned songs, "King Without A Castle" and "Let’s Have A Party."
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Includes 4 previously unreleased tracks. | | Audio Mixers: Chris Lord-Alge; Jack Joseph Puig; Lee Herschberg; Mark Needham. | | Illustrator: Chris Isaak. | | Photographers: Mike Zagaris; Saori Miyazaki; Aaron Chang; Danny Clinch. | | Given that many artists get the "best-of" treatment after only a few albums, it's quite remarkable that the first real Chris Isaak overview didn't appear until 2006, more than 20 years into the nostalgic pop/rock crooner's career. The 18-track non-chronological collection ranges from the twangy early single "Dancin'" to the guitar-rocker "King Without a Castle," one of four previously unreleased tracks. Along the way, the set makes room for Isaak's hits, including the ethereal "Wicked Game," the sinister "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing," and his spot-on cover of "Only the Lonely" by Roy Orbison--one of his most obvious influences. Although some fans may be irked that Isaak's first non-holiday release since '02's ALWAYS GOT TONIGHT is a compilation, it's an exceptional one, and provides an excellent sampler of his charmingly vintage persona and formidable talent. | Producer: Erik Jacobsen; Eric Rosse; Chris Isaak; John Shanks; Erik Jacobsen; Eric Rosse; Chris Isaak; John Shanks |
| | Artist Overview | | With his chiseled features and haunting croon, Chris Isaak appeared in the mid-1980s like a roots-rock Chet Baker. His hushed, romantic singing style perfectly complemented his songwriting, which blended the rockabilly/pop styles of Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison with a country twang and touch of West Coast cool. His career took off with the song "Wicked Game," featured in the 1990 David Lynch film, WILD AT HEART. Subsequently, Isaak proved a natural at acting, appearing in numerous films and even landing his own cable series in 2001, THE CHRIS ISAAK SHOW. |
