When it was airing, my friends would all come over every Sunday to watch the feed that went to all the syndicators on my big dish. It is _so_ good. There were a few stumbles before the characters and actors "got their legs" and before all the framework for the 5-year storyline had been laid, but the basic "arc" of the story was there from the very beginning - Straczynski had the basic long-term plot firmly in mind when he wrote the very first episode.

The first season is more of a introduction into the world of Babylon 5, but you will enjoy the plot lines and the characters in this wonderful series. It was filmed in widescreen before anyone even thought about the idea of doing that format for a television show. So you will get a nice treat visually even though the computer-generated effects in the first season are not that great, they do improve as each season goes along. If you want to see superb storytelling and interesting characters, buy this DVD collection.

This was the most enjoyable Sci-Fi series I have ever seen. I have been waiting a long time for the DVD. The release of the first pilot look fantastic on DVD and this should be better.

The key to understanding why some are in love with this series is the engaging thread of the story, which takes 110 episodes to conclude. The first episodes leave a little to be desired in cinematography, but I think they filmed them on a shoe string budget. Even after you have watched the whole story a couple of times, you will see new nuance in the characters and story, that you just didn't notice the previous couple of times. Its truly an art piece among the plethora of Sci Fi fare.

This is by far the best Sci-fi series ever made. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Star Trek or any of those other series, it is just the "you have one hour to present and solve the problem" nature of those shows that never truly appealed to me. Babylon 5 goes above and beyond with the plot line, cinematography, costumes and special effects. The stories are truly engaging. The references to both past and future episodes keeps the viewer involved and filled with anticipation at the same time. If this isn't enough, this is the only sci-fi series that my wife also enjoys. That should pretty much say it all! The only other thing I can say is I can't wait for the next 4 seasons. Pre-order me now!!
