Anonymizer Anonymous Surfing hides your IP address, which apparently is supposed to protect you from phishing and pharming. It also helps you manage cookies and history files by allowing you to set them up for automatic "shredding" (deletion). Plus you can create your own "Nyms", virtual email addresses that you can use in place of your actual address. I've not tried Nyms, but the shredder works fine, and I guess the IP hiding works (I don't know how to test it). I've noticed it puts a drag on my internet performance. It doesn't always detect my modem connection smoothly. Sometimes it seems to conflict with my many installed Firefox extensions...I usually just kill Anonymizer at that point. The product installs easily, has a nice user interface, and does what it says. It adds some configuration complexity because of overlapping functions in Firefox and IE, such as cookie and history file management. As a laptop user with limited RAM and a cellphone acting as a modem, it's not a start-up item on my desktop. I suggest a powerful PC and a fast connection before considering this product. Also, it's subscription-based so beware ongoing costs.

I was living in Africa and was unable to place an order with most online services. Once they saw my IP, the blew me off. With the "Anonymizer" software, I was able to make most folks believe I was in the US. It did not work at every site, but most. Their add on anti spyware was the ONLY one that cleaned up my machine after it was infected.

good tool if you want to be anonymous surfer. Unfortunately it will not work for emails and order sites which are secured
