5 of 5 Excellent budget 19" flat panel monitor Wednesday, April 20, 2005 Brian from Mechanicsburg, PA
I was only looking to get a 17" monitor when I came across this baby. I just got it out of the box and connected it to my computer and BAM, it did the rest. This is my first flat panel monitor and I love it!! No dead pixels, easy installation, incredible results! Thank you ACER for making the 19" flat panel affordable and enjoyable! 5 of 5 Nice Acer Monitor Wednesday, April 20, 2005 A Customer from Roxbury, NJ
I received the Acer AL1914SMD monitor a few days ago. You know sometimes when you open the box on a new item you get a first impression on the product. Well I was pleasantly surprised. Right upon opening the box the product had the feel of quality. I was up and running in no time. The monitor comes with digital and analog inputs, a great response time, and decent contrast at 500:1. The brightness comes from the factory at 100% and I had to turn it down to 50%. I’m not a real serious gamer but everything I threw at it was handled without any ghosting problems.
This is my first LCD monitor and I am very impressed. At the low price it seems like quite a deal. Buy.com comes through again. Nice monitor. I would buy another.

Everything is good about this monitor except it is sometimes too bright when viewing some screens. The brightness is not too much of a problem because you can lower the brightness... however the big problem is when trying to watch movies that are dark, and it is very hard to see what is on the screen. It is very noticeable comparing the same movie with my old monitor and this one. I tried playing around with the settings but it did not help at all.

The only complaints I have about this monitor is that contrast ratio is a bit low and thus sometimes creates too bright/dark screens. I also had two dead pixel already on my screen even though it was brand new. The base of the monitor that supports it seems rather flaky as well.
Other than that, everything else is great. Was this review helpful?

I've been wanting a 19" flat panel for some time. I got spoiled at work using the large displays there. I found the deal here at buy.com from one of those bargain websites. I saw the price and specs on it and thought "thats not half bad". So I took the chance and ordered it thinking that it wouldn't be the best, and it might not but I tell you, I'm really impressed. The important factors for me was the response time and that it had DVI, and this one does. I personally don't use the speakers that are built into the monitor, I doubt they are high performance, but I might hook up my MP3 player to it sometime so I can have music and be playing games at the same time.
The performace for games that I play are excellent (the Battlefield series). No problems with ghosting and the sharpness is on par with my old CRT.
If you've been thinking about getting this monitor, then go for it. It is equal to the performance of 500+ monitors that I have used.
