4 of 5 Confusing installation, slow data transfer 7/20/2008

After I installed this connected to my MacBook Pro, the Quit WD Anywhere Backup command was dithered, and the program could not be closed. Further, because the program was running, I could not shut down my computer normally. There was no description of this problem in the documentation. WD tech support advised me I had to do a forced quit; when I restarted the Quit command became available, and the software appears to be functioning normally now.
Initial backup of my notebook hard drive using the Firewire 800 connection achieved an average data transfer rate of only 160 Mb/sec (20 MB/sec), far short of the advertised 800 mb/sec.

You won't believe the difference in speed with the fire wire option. I put this on my iMac and can down load a 4 GB CF card in less than 5 minutes! The times savings is incredible. Plug and play really worked.

Pros: Multiple interfaces for connection, and nice look. No problems so far in terms of running.
Cons: Nearly impossible to swap out the hard-drive in the enclosure. WD should consider that people might want more flexibility with how they manage their data.
