Superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger is Adam, an ace pilot in the very near future who is having a serious identity crisis. An evil corporation illegally cloned him, and now they're trying to kill him to hide the evidence. Torn from his beloved family and faced with a shocking exact duplicate of himself, Adam races against time to reclaim his life and save the world from the underground cloning movement.

From the director of Tomorrow Never Dies, The 6th Day also stars powerhouse actors Robert Duvall (Gone in 60 Seconds, Deep Impact) and Michael Rapaport (Deep Blue Sea, Cop Land). Prepare for a high tech sci-fi blast with twice the Arnold and twice the action!

Editor's Note

In the not-too-distant future, when pets can be cloned after they die and "virtual girlfriends" can be installed and programmed, Adam Gibson (Arnold Schwarzenegger) works as a helicopter tour pilot. On his birthday he comes home to discover an identical version of himself--an illegal human clone--celebrating with his family and friends. The next thing he knows, a squad of killers is after him in order to hide the evidence of their cloning activities, funded by Michael Drucker (Tony Goldwyn), a powerful businessman who hopes to make billions from human cloning in collaboration with his medical expert, Dr. Griffin Weir (Robert Duvall). Of course, nobody believes Adam when he says there's an impostor living his life, and soon he has to take matters into his own hands while being chased by bad guys who won't stay dead thanks to the magic of cloning and Syncordings, instant memory downloads. THE 6TH DAY is an intriguing sci-fi thriller, combining science fact and fiction with everything viewers could want from a Schwarzenegger movie: terrific special effects and an action-packed story, with two Arnolds for twice the fun.

ReelViews 7 of 10
One of The Sixth Day's enemies is its overblown running length. This repetitious motion picture is badly in need of an editor. At 90 minutes, it might have been lean and mean enough to get by, but, at just over two hours, it drags...The Sixth Day contains its share of intriguing ideas and does more than merely pay lip service to them. The movie raises a lot of legitimate questions about the ethics and philosophical ramifications of cloning. However, a strong backstory is not why people go to a Schwarzenegger film - they pay their hard-earned money to see the icon do what he does best: kick butt and kill the bad guys. He accomplishes both in The Sixth Day, but not with a great deal of panache. As an action film, this movie is more recycled than innovative or energetic. And, on those occasions when it tries to do something out-of-the-ordinary, its success is marginal. The twists are easily predicted and too reminiscent of similar developments in Total Recall. The movie needs one solid surprise to turn things around - but it never delivers. Ultimately, The Sixth Day serves to remind us that Schwarzengger is still out there, even if he's not the force to be reckoned with that he once was. When he utters a slightly altered version of his signature line - "I might be back" - we believe him, but aren't necessarily enthused about the prospect. - James Berardinelli

Chicago Sun-Times 8 of 10
On the sixth day, God created man. And man should leave it at that, according to laws that have been passed in "The 6th Day," Arnold Schwarzenegger's new thriller..."The 6th Day" is not in the same league with the great Schwarzenegger films such as "Total Recall" and "Terminator 2," but it's a well-crafted entertainment containing enough ideas to qualify it as science fiction and not just as a futurist thriller. Schwarzenegger once again gets mileage out of the contrast between his muscular presence and his everyman persona; at one point, he has dialogue that slyly pairs the two: "My little girl--I don't want to expose her to any graphic violence. She gets enough of that from the media." Both Drucker and Talia have been cloned many times, causing us to wonder how much they enjoy starting over, and whether any regrets are left behind in the process. We'll never know: The discarded entities left behind in the cloning process have no way to complain. Instead of living forever through the genes you give to your children, you live forever through reproducing your own genes, which brings evolution to a dead stop, of course. Could you make a Syncording of yourself as a child, grow up, clone the kid and bring up yourself as your own child? Speculations like these are inspired by "The 6th Day," and are part of the fun. - Roger Ebert
