First the pros: great product, great price, fast and reliable with a good 3 year warranty. Once you get it installed, it is quiet and fast.
Now the suggestions for improvement: how about a Vista version of Data Lifeguard Tools? There were no screws with my drive and the backup disk looked like a cheap copy of a disk.
Make sure to download the Quick Install and Full Install Instructions from the web-site as they aren't included. Same for the Data Lifeguard Tools. If you have Vista, or even for an older OS, use the Disk Management utility available in Control Panel to initialize and format the drive. Was this review helpful?

Haven't had the drive long but so far been a solid drive. I've had similar ones from the same type in the past and they have all been rock solid.
The "backup" software packaged with this partiular model is a joke and should not be taken into account in the purchase price. Although it could be considered almost a beta version the fact that it was printed on a CD-R with a paper label does not inspire confidence.

This item is plug and play! Out of the box and into my G5 tower drive bay was a snap. OS X 10.39 recognized it and initialized it right away. I installed 10.5 on it. It runs perfectly; it is very quiet too. I threw away the Windbloze backup software. Was this review helpful?

No issues. Works great. Not loud. Came with a power cable that converts old power to new mini power. The cable has one old inlet and two new outlets. It also came with a red SATA cable.
I didn't use either of these, and I haven't tried the software that it came with. I ran Vista on it and then formatted it for XP. I'm very pleased with it. Was this review helpful?

The drive is nice. To get the 500GB glory, you will have to partition it using the WD Data Lifeguard software (not included, available from WD as a free download).
If you are installing this drive on a Sata 1 motherboard, you will have to put a jumper on pins 5,6.
Can't beat the price on this drive. The drive came securing packaged with all the necessary cables. Overall, it's a great buy. Was this review helpful?

Easy to install, given all the cables necessary. Just remember to turn on the BIOS to which ever port you plugged it into on the Motherboard.
Its quiet, noticeable when you pull up something huge sound wise. (still not that loud) Other than that its pretty quiet most of the time.
Its also a very fast drive. Overall very happy with the performance and quality. Works Great, Great price. And its WD! Was this review helpful?
