| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Performers include: The Everly Brothers, The Tokens, Ben E. King, The Drifters, Lou Christie, Herman's Hermits, The Association. | | Madacy's 20 Best Hits of the 60s may indeed contain 20 of the '60s best hits, but unfortunately for everyone involved only a couple (the Shangri-Las' "Remember Walkin' in the Sand," the Vogues' "You're the One") are the original versions of the songs. The rest are modern remakes by either the original artist, who invariably sounds shaky and almost embarrassed to have sunk so low, or by some facsimile of the original group, which -- unless you are in the market for a Diana Ross-less Supremes, a Peter Noone-less Herman's Hermits, or a Smokey Robinson-less Miracles 30 years after their prime -- is never less than wretched. If you think that is an excessive complaint, listen to the Association absolutely murder the vocal harmonies on "Cherish" or the Supremes warble their way through a sub-karaoke version of "Baby Love." You'll see. This disc is a travesty, plain and simple. ~ Tim Sendra | | Madacy's 20 Best Hits of the 60s may indeed contain 20 of the '60s best hits, but unfortunately for everyone involved only a couple (the Shangri-Las' "Remember Walkin' in the Sand," the Vogues' "You're the One") are the original versions of the songs.
