5 of 5 Just what I needed Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Wayne from Merrimack, NH
My laptop hard drive went bad and would no longer mount. While waiting for a replacement from Dell, I ordered this enclosure with the plan that I'd put the bad one in there, plug it into my USB port, and attempt to recover whatever data I could (there were of course lots of files on it that hadn't been backed up). The replacement drive arrived from Dell, I got the laptop back up and running, and then it was time to start the salvage attempt. The defective drive installed quickly and easily in the enclosure (didn't even bother with the screws), and after running some utilities, I was able to get almost all of my files back - boy what a relief! This enclosure really saved the day for me. The price was far below other enclosures so I was quite suspicious about it, but figured it was worth a try. Without a fan, perhaps it's not the best choice if you're going to use it on a regular basis, but certainly for emergencies I highly recommend it. And kudos to eforcity for shipping it out so quickly. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great value for the price Saturday, April 11, 2009 A Customer from Novato, CA
This is a slim size enclosure. It comes with screws and a screw driver. However I did not use any of the screws since the case itself holds securely with a latch. It is very easy to put the disk in. The disk works fine in the enclosure. As the other user wrote, the usb cable is double headed at one end. I do prefer a single ended cable like the one I have with a WD passport HD. It would be easy to carry with the disk. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 OK but hard to install Sunday, March 01, 2009 John from Cupertion, CA
For the price it cannot be beaten. Looks very good too. Matt finish, not mirror finish as stated on the box, and very thin. Probably silver one would be better if you don't want to see finger prints. Now the down side: the cover only opens one half (some other reviewers also mentioned this), so even though it comes with 4 screws to fix the drive and 1 screwdriver, it is useless since screws have to inserted from the blocked side. The internal space wrapped around the drive exactly, so to install the drive you have to tilt the drive to push it onto connector first, then the body can get in. Since the other side is blocked, this makes it impossible to take the drive out again. So be careful if your purpose is to clone a drive for notebook upgrade. What I did was to stick a plastic tape on the under side of the drive first, so later the drive butt can be lifted out then the drive pulled out of the connector. Since things tilt so much, it kind of makes you wonder if the little connector circuit board on the front would eventually break or not. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great little enclosure! Monday, February 23, 2009 DG from Phila.
I bought this directly through eforcity and to be honest when i bought it I thought it was going to hold my extra regular size Sata HD (250gb) Well when I got i realized it actually is for a labtop HD..(2.5"). Well rather then return it i kept it for about 3 months.....Then i found a Laptop HD (80gb) at an unbelievable price so i bought it. I used this enlosure and found myself with a nice little external HD I could use with my desktop....I LOVE IT!!! I like it better than the USB Flash drives everyones buying......I WISH I could trade in all my 4 - 64gb flash drives in for another one of these!!!!! I Love this...its so portable (The size of a small/medium calculator) it fits in your shirt pocket ....and is FASTER, More reliable and durable than ANY Flash drive I have!!!! And you know what...between the price of this enclosure and the price of the 2.5" HD the HD came out to be A LOT CHEAPER THAN BUYING A 64gb Flash drive!!!!!!!!!!! and you'll like it better!!!
ONE "Con" though with this enclosure....it doesn't have an On/Off switch ...So basically after you safely remove you just unplug it....Not a real big deal....but definitly noticable.....BUT HEY NEITHER DO FLASH DRIVES!!!!!!!
This enclosure works very well and is very durable....well worth $10.99 ......It comes wih 3 screws...a mini screw driver and a USB double headed connector cord....although you only have to use one if the usb slot your putting it in has enouph power..........and comes with a soft slide Pleather sheath/case to carry in.
Honestly GO with the 2.5" to copy and save files INSTEAD of a Flash drive.....Cheaper...more GB per $$.... more durable ...and more reliable and safer!!! Trust me!!! Was this review helpful?
