Antonio Banderas is an important ambassador who is banished from his homeland for having an affair with the King’s wife. During his travels he comes across a band of warriors who are being attacked by mysterious and ferocious creatures legendary for consuming every living thing in their path. An old fortune-teller warns the warriors that they will fail unless they are accompanied on their journey by a 13th warrior to help fight and conquer the mysterious enemy that is threatening their homeland.

Director John McTiernan takes viewers back to 900 A.D. in THE 13th WARRIOR. After courting "an untouchable" Muslim princess, Ahmed (Antonio Banderas) is banished and sent North as an emissary. When traveling from Baghdad to Saqaliba, he stumbles into an encampment of Vikings. At first repulsed by their Nordic ways, Ahmed soon grows fond of the Northerners and joins their party.When news is brought that a horde of flesh eating monsters are ravaging the land, the mystic Oracle ordains that a group of 13 must travel to fight their evil doings. Twelve Nordes rom the party are chosen, Ahmed, a Muslim, is picked as the thirteenth. Knowing that defeat is eminent, the 13 warriors must undergo indeterminable odds to battle and rid the land of the horrific flesh eaters. The 13th Warrior is an epic tour de force created by two of Hollywood's most ingenious: Michael Crichton (JURASSIC PARK, LOOKER) and John McTiernan (PREDATOR, THE LAST ACTION HERO). This movie is one of my persoanl favorites. I don't like Antonio Banderas that much, I don't really think he's that great of an actor, but this movie is a lot more than him anyway. The cinematography in this movie is superb, one of the best in my opinion. The plot was easy to follow and is one that could be real. If you like epic motion pictures you will definitely like this movie, I would compare this movie to such epics as: Braveheart, The Patriot, and Gladiator; they all are just about equal in greatness. I would recommend this movie to anyone that hasn't seen it, or if you have seen it, see it again. I would give this movie more than five stars, but it won't let me go any higher. I initially began watching this movie primarily because I noticed Antonio Banderas on the screen. I continued watching it due to everything else. Admittedly, the plot was not particularly involved but the acting made it both interesting and plausible. The cinematagraphy was first rate with beautiful scenery and well-done action sequences throughout. My husband and I both enjoyed this movie and most definately added it to our collection. It's about time someone did a good movie about Northmen. There aren't enough viking movies out there if you ask me! Seriously though, this is one of my personal fav's and I'm sure you will love it. I bought the DVD as soon as it came out and have greatly enjoyed it. Was this review helpful?

If you are into epic action type movies such as Glory, Braveheart, Excalibur, etc., then this is the movie for you. It has a very creative plot and has a good focus on bravery and honor. Overall I liked the film. Was this review helpful?

If you liked Braveheart or Last of the Mohicans, you will definately enjoy this action/adventure movie with epic-like proportions. Cinematography was first rate and the music matched the tempo. This is a typical John Mctiernan movie.

This movie is definitely worth seeing. The battle scenes are more realistic than many movies of the same genre. Don't see it for Antonio Banderas- See it for Dennis Storhoi, Vladamir Kulich, Daniel Southern and the others of the 13! VERY Recommended! Was this review helpful?
