In The Cleaner on A&E, Benjamin Bratt stars as William Banks, a former drug addict who helps other addicts kick their addiction by any means necessary. Bratt’s portryal of Banks is loosely based on addiction counselor Warren Boyd. The first season had a 13-episode run in the summer of 2008, and will continue with a second 13-episode season later this month. When his daughter Lula was born, Banks made a promise to God he would get clean and get his life together. For many slasher film aficionados, the Friday the 13th franchise doesn't truly take off until its second entry: when Jason Voorhees takes charge. Sean Cunningham's initial Friday, after all, only featured the iconic killer as a young boy dream creation; it's the first sequel that imagined him as full-grown, "some sort of demented creature, living in the wilderness" of New Jersey. The Jason that we meet in Part Two hasn't been fully tweaked into the hockey-mask-wearing murder machine that we know from later installments, though. This half-formed Jason wears a burlap sack with one eyehole (must not do much for his depth of vision) and a surprisingly fresh pair of boots over his large feet. read the full review

In bringing his play to the big screen, Shanley did quite a few things wrong but did one thing right. He got an excellent cast (all four key actors received Academy Award nominations) and let them turn his documentation of the conflict between a Priest and a Nun at a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964 into something real and relatable. Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Father Flynn and Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius both take their characters beyond the obvious and clichd and that makes their conflict all the more difficult. read the full review
