It's no stretch to call Adam McKay's Step Brothers the year's stupidest film. Part of me feels bad labeling it as such, but then I remember that no movie boasting scenes of a grown man licking dog feces really wants to be taken seriously on any level. And yet, I'd be lying if I told you Brothers didn't make me laugh. read the full review

John Adams (Blu-Ray/3 Disc) new! | | | Starring: Laura Linney Paul Giamatti | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 6/16/2009 | | John Adams - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: El Bicho - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 7/6/2009 3:35 PM | | Based on David McCullough’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, the seven-part HBO miniseries John Adams is a fascinating look at the Founding Father and second President of the United States. More than just a history lesson of milestones in his life, the story also tells a love triangle between Adams (Paul Giamatti), his wife Abigail (Laura Linney), and the principles that shaped the country he would help create. read the full review

Williams - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 4/24/2007 9:28 AM | | Beginning with a horrific bombing of the New Orleans Canal Street Ferry, Dj Vu is a visually intense movie. Reminiscent somewhat of the sci-fi plot, images and film techniques of Spielbergs Minority Report, Tony Scott employs a combination of a high definition Genesis, Time Track, and Lydar cameras to create Dj Vu. read the full review

Death. Superman. Those two words made The Death of Superman one of the most successful comic book series in the '90s. Surprisingly enough, the title of the animated-movie adaptation, Superman: Doomsday, contains neither of those words. But the bloody "S" symbol on the DVD cover should make things clear, even if you haven't read the comic. Yes, this is the movie in which the mysterious alien Doomsday beats the crap out of, stomps on, and "kills" the Man of Steel. Yes, you actually see blood. No, this isn't a movie for kids. Yes, comic book fans will appreciate this movie -- but they probably won't love it.
That's because Superman: Doomsday tries just a little too hard. read the full review

Part of Sandler's "oeuvre" consists of movies like Spanglish and Punch-Drunk Love -- odd hybrids of broad humor and quirk -- and toned-down, frothy mainstream comedies like Click and Bedtime Stories. It would be unfair to accuse Sandler of selling out his artistic vision in these films -- not only because Little Nicky wasn't art, but because the non-manic goofiness of Bedtime Stories may be closer to the real Sandler. And with some script consulting help, someday the real Sandler might make a really good film. Bedtime Stories isn't it, but at least it's mostly aimed in the right direction. read the full review

| | 45. Two Days In Paris | | | Starring: Adam Goldberg Julie Delpy Director: Julie Delpy | | Format: DVD Release Date: 1/13/2009 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | 2 Days in Paris - DVD Review By: Don Willmott - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 2/5/2008 8:25 PM | |
Julie Delpy is a rare triple threat, equally talented as a writer, director, and actor. And she's bilingual, too. Such an overachiever! Her romantic comedy 2 Days in Paris is an engaging and witty escape to the City of Lights. Though it's slightly tarnished by an overreliance on Woody Allen tropes, it's still a lot of fun. And Paris always looks so good on film. At 35 years old, Marion (Delpy) and Jack (Adam Goldberg) are at that stage of their two-year relationship when they're wondering what's next. A two-week vacation in Venice has not turned out well, and before they return to New York, they stop off in Paris, Marion's hometown, so Jack can meet the parents and Marion can reconnect with her Parisian friends. read the full review
