Sean Cunningham's initial Friday, after all, only featured the iconic killer as a young boy dream creation; it's the first sequel that imagined him as full-grown, "some sort of demented creature, living in the wilderness" of New Jersey. The Jason that we meet in Part Two hasn't been fully tweaked into the hockey-mask-wearing murder machine that we know from later installments, though. This half-formed Jason wears a burlap sack with one eyehole (must not do much for his depth of vision) and a surprisingly fresh pair of boots over his large feet. read the full review

Doubt | | | Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman Amy Adams Director: John Patrick Shanley | | Format: DVD Release Date: 4/7/2009 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | Doubt - DVD Review By: Ed Perkis - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 4/24/2009 3:46 PM | | In bringing his play to the big screen, Shanley did quite a few things wrong but did one thing right. He got an excellent cast (all four key actors received Academy Award nominations) and let them turn his documentation of the conflict between a Priest and a Nun at a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964 into something real and relatable. Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Father Flynn and Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius both take their characters beyond the obvious and clichd and that makes their conflict all the more difficult. read the full review

Doubt (Blu-ray) | | | Starring: Meryl Streep Philip Seymour Hoffman Director: John Patrick Shanley | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 4/7/2009 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | Doubt - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: Aaron Peck - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 4/16/2009 12:37 PM | | Well-deserving of its five Oscar nominations, Doubt is one of the most powerful films to come out of 2008. Adapted from the play of the same name, Doubt is a multi-layered parable about how faith and doubt affect lives. Both are completely opposite abstract notions. If you have total faith, doubt ceases to exist. If doubt overcomes you, then faith is nowhere to be found. The setting for the film is the Bronx, St. Nicholas School, 1964. Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) is the stern principal. The children fear her, but to Sister Aloysius that is her purpose. read the full review

Surprisingly, such is not the case, and the concept of two men pairing up to skate has quite a different intention than, let's say, Kevin James and Adam Sandler's fake marriage in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. read the full review

There have been a slew of successful comedies over the past few years, both in film and television. The key to their success lies not simply in the escalating level of raunch or the burgeoning group of well-known comic actors who join the pack. For these comedies, success lies in the very specific, clear-eyed attitudes brought to the material by the various creative minds behind the humor -- be it the geek love of Judd Apatow, the savage wit of Tina Fey, the inspired idiocy of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, or the genre-bending genius of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. read the full review

The name alone evokes many memories for me. Star Trek mostly, with some Airplane: The Sequel and Tek War thrown in for good measure. He's been in the movie and television industry forever, but has also been attached to a number of book projects over the years and had a director credit on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier way back when. Little did I know that after the passing of his first wife he was inspired to write a story about aliens and everlasting love. read the full review
