After four decades, 20 feature films and five actors in the leading role, the James Bond franchise finally gets... an origin story? You'd think it unnecessary, as 007's trademarks by this point have been burned into our memory. We know the trained assassin's drink of choice, his preferred mode of transportation, and his willingness to invoke the hard-earned license to kill when dangerous situations arise. But familiarity has bred contempt for a spy that hasn't ignited movie theaters since the Cold War concluded. A change was long overdue. read the full review

Wilk - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 11/25/2007 9:03 PM | | Live Free or Die Hard is just another chapter of the Die Hard series. There is really nothing new at this point, except for the PG-13 rating. Even without the R-rating, McClane is still being thrown into crazy situations against terrorists armed with machine guns and explosives, yet somehow beats the crap out of all of them for a final showdown with the mastermind. It's a formula that has successfully worked for three previous installments. read the full review

"He can't drive a stick!"), Craig is asked to play Bond as a "blunt instrument" (as MI6 head M (Judy Dench) derisively refers to him.) Reliant more on brute strength, iron nerves, and boundless energy than gadgets and sophistication, this Bond doesn't always make the right decision. read the full review

Peter Berg's The Kingdom will either rally those in the theater or piss off every single ticket holder in sight. It's gonna be awesome. Indeed, sardonic catcalls of "kill all the towelheads!" were shouted at the press screening I attended while the rest of the theater applauded with rigorous aplomb as Jennifer Garner jammed a knife into a Saudi terrorist's nether regions. This was all preceded by some daft bollock yammering on his cellphone during the opening credits while another patron quietly threatened castration. Only in New York, ladies and gents. Why will people be so divisive, you ask? Well, in The Kingdom, a compound of Americans in the Saudi Arabia capital of Riyadh are bombed. read the full review

Ronin is one of the few action movies that I can chew on without having to regurgitate. Normally, the action film fills me with a sort of dread. In fact, per my recollection, Ronin filled me with a sort of dread the first time around (despite Robert De Niro being in the film). You see, the action film is a sort of black hole for the industry. Money gets sucked into the film but it passes a sort of event horizon, at which point no matter how much money is poured in, the movie is still terrible. Sure, it is so absolutely dumb that you can sit back and enjoy it anyway, but the fact of the matter is that by the time the action movie has passed this point of no return you know you are watching trash. read the full review

Williams - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 2/21/2007 1:05 PM | | Jack utters quite the incongruous combination of words. "Dad" and "I'm unarmed." We open seeing Jack checking through wreckage of the fiery bombed out van. Milo and Marilyn are running through the alleys and streets with Phillip’s henchmen close behind. They hide behind some dumpsters, but the bad guys know they are there. read the full review
