What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than by spending a good two hours with America’s favorite super hero, Spider-Man? Tobey Maguire returns to the massively popular Spider-Man franchise after a two-year hiatus. And in case you forgot what happened in the summer of 2002, director Sam Raimi is happy to synopsize it for us in the first 40 minutes of this sequel. Poor Peter Parker can’t win: He didn’t get the girl (Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane), his beloved uncle is dead, Aunt May is about to lose her house, and he’s failing out of college because he doesn’t have time to study – he’s too busy chasing down street thugs in his spidey suit. read the full review

You do not have to read the original short story "1408," part of the longer anthology Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales, to know that the central idea comes from author Stephen King. In fact, one must assume that the movie was pitched in production meetings as "The Shining in New York." And while it's true that this cinematic take on "1408" recycles so many narrative strings tied to King's overall body of work, it somehow modifies them into a surprisingly fresh, tight and effective thriller. Renowned travel writer Mike Enslin (John Cusack), like most characters in King's ouvere, is haunted by his own demons. read the full review

| | Spiderman 2.1 (2-Disc Extrended Cut) | | Videos/DVDs: See more matches | | | Video Reviews Available: 2 | | Spider-Man 2.1 - DVD By: Rafe Telsch - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 4/7/2007 10:17 PM | | With Spider-Man 3 rapidly approaching to open 2007's summer movie season, it seems only appropriate that Sony pictures releases a new version of Spider-Man 2 on DVD, much like they did with Spider-Man when the first sequel hit theaters. Spider-Man 2.1 includes new trivia, a more focused look at the visual effects of the film, and eight minutes of new footage, fully integrated into the movie. It needs none of it, however, as Spider-Man 2 was already close to comic book adaptation perfection. read the full review | |
