Wilk - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 11/25/2007 9:03 PM | | Live Free or Die Hard is just another chapter of the Die Hard series. There is really nothing new at this point, except for the PG-13 rating. Even without the R-rating, McClane is still being thrown into crazy situations against terrorists armed with machine guns and explosives, yet somehow beats the crap out of all of them for a final showdown with the mastermind. It's a formula that has successfully worked for three previous installments. read the full review

As part of the trend in faith-driven filmmaking (and based on an apparently very popular self-help book), The Ultimate Gift is inspirational filmmaking at its most average. The tale involves a recently deceased business tycoon (James Garner), who gives token fortunes to various family members, all of whom have been ingrate layabouts their entire lives. The exception is young grandson Jason (Drew Fuller), who's the worst of all. He gets a series of tasks from lawyer Ted (Bill Cobbs), designed to see if Jason can actually become a useful member of society and thus, worthy of his inheritance. read the full review

The fact that Juno goes for adoption rather than the other "a" has caused a few critics to cast the film as a conservatives-go-hip ploy. That doesn't fly for me: Almost every character exudes notably blue-state warmth, and though the American family is seen as a dilapidated structure, it's whole-heartedly embraced for its flaws without a hint of chastisement. But sometimes these films don't have to be about the "right" and "wrong" attitudes towards dubious issues nor even about what agenda the helmer may or may not be after. Sometimes they are simply about finding the right cheese for your macaroni. read the full review

| | Idiocracy | | Videos/DVDs: See more matches | | | Idiocracy - DVD By: Margaret Williams - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 1/22/2007 10:55 PM | | Idiocracy has a lot to offer as far as social commentary goes and Mike Judge keeps up his opinion without pausing to worry about what others will think. That's what makes him so good. But, unlike his other film and the lasting effect of Office Space and its cast of characters, Idiocracy won't be so loved and memorable. It's a good film for the time that it is running, but after the movie is over, it is not so endearing. Idiocracy is definitely a film to watch, but not necessarily a DVD to buy. read the full review | |
