| | 8. Children of Men (HD & DVD Combo) | | | Starring: Clive Owen Julianne Moore Director: Alfonso Cuaron | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 3/27/2007 | User Rating: 5 | | Children of Men - DVD By: Chris Beaumont - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 3/26/2007 7:18 PM | | The best of 2006 arrives on DVD. It is time to see what you missed. Children of Men topped my best of 2006 list, and I am happy to report that it has successfully made the translation to the small screen with its impact intact. Alfonso Cuaron's film thrusts you into a dangerous and brutal world, yet brings hope for the future. This vision of the future is bleak and grim and there is a distinct feeling of hopelessness. Cuarón delivers a daring future world that takes you on a journey through the despair to the dawn of a new hope. read the full review | |

| | 12. Fountain (HD & DVD Combo) | | | Starring: Rachel Weisz Hugh Jackman Director: Darren Aronofsky | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 5/15/2007 | | The Fountain - DVD By: Daniel J. Stasiewski - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 5/14/2007 1:36 PM | | The film is one that spans a millennium. From the story of a Spanish conquistador (Hugh Jackman) sent to the Mayan territories in search for the Tree of Life to a narrative involving a man (Jackman again) traveling to a nebula in search of the Mayan underworld, the films ambitious scale is unbelievable. Yet the romance at the center of it all, a contemporary love story about a research scientist (once again, Jackman) trying to cure cancer to save his dying wife (Rachel Weisz), grounds the film. The combination results in revelations and heartbreaking truths about mankind.

| | 18. Clockwork Orange-Special Edition (HD) | | | Starring: Malcolm McDowell Director: Stanley Kubrick | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 10/23/2007 | | A Clockwork Orange: Two-Disc Special Edition - DVD Review By: Felix Vasquez Jr. - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 11/20/2007 3:54 AM | | Stanley Kubrick set forth a zeitgeist upon which all future gang warfare films would be based on. Which is surprising considering A Clockwork Orange is not about gang warfare at all. It's a science fiction thriller about a predator of humanity who gets a taste of his own medicine a hundred fold once he is rehabilitated into a docile animal of society. Alex DeLarge, almost like Scarface, has become a considerable icon for the neo-sixties chic society of pop culture that has embraced his image of a derby, cane, and accentuated lashes. read the full review | |

Mix in a thumping techno soundtrack and you've got yourself an eye-popping, pulse-pounding adrenaline fest timing in at a brisk 85 minutes. read the full review

| | 20. A Scanner Darkly (HD) | | | Starring: Keanu Reeves Rory Cochrane Director: Richard Linklater | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 4/10/2007 | | A Scanner Darkly - DVD By: Anne Gilbert - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 12/8/2006 5:54 PM | |
Linklater returns to the same technique once again (and for the last time, from what he has said, due to rampant production difficulties) for a much more literal acid trip. Based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name, A Scanner Darkly is a feature-length PSA on the evils of drugs and the potentially-as-damaging efforts to ferret them out of society. read the full review
