The E510 may be the ultimate bridge camera; an imaging device that almost perfectly spans the gap between prosumer point & shoot consumer digicams like the Canon S5...more

On paper, it looks as if the Nikon P80 can do anything you'd ever ask of a camera. The 18x zoom covers a range equivalent to 27mm to nearly 500mm, and in-built image stabilisation should help keep those long shots steady. Keen photographers like to fiddle with the shutter speed and aperture, and the P80's SLR-style Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes should make this straightforward....more

This is a remarkable lens in a remarkable camera. First, all other superzooms are scaled down SLR designs, which are just too bulky to slide into your pocket. The Panasonic TZ4 isn't....more

Small is beautiful, or so it's said. Could this be true of a DSLR that's as small as a large compact? Well, if you give the Olympus E-420 a chance, not only will you find it astonishing value, but its dinky size means you'll end up taking it everywhere with you. This is the second small Olympus DSLR and looks and feels a bit like the legendary OM SLRS that propelled Olympus into one of the world's best-known camera brands....more

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 - Digital Camera Review

When the heavily hyped, touch screen enabled Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 first appeared, I'll admit that I largely wrote it off as an exercise in novelty - an FX35 with a touch screen slapped on and little else to justify its significantly higher price tag compared to our March Editor's Choice winner. Scratch the surface, however, and it becomes apparent that Panasonic has slipped several upgrades into the FX500's sleek casing. ...more

There are a ton of digital cameras out there, and quite a few of them are competing with the Nikon Coolpix P60 for position at the top of the general-purpose compact camera heap. With a 5x Nikkor lens, an 8.1 megapixel sensor, image stabilization, and manual exposure controls, the P60 has a nice balance of features and size. Is Nikon's balanced approach enough to help the P60 come out on top? Let's find out....more

Canon PowerShot SD890 IS - Digital Camera Review

With the Canon SD850 remaining one of the most popular compact cameras out there, its follow-up model, the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS, had some big shoes to fill: preserving everything that the SD850 did well is almost as important in this case as pushing the envelope. With more resolution, a longer zoom, improved IS and auto focus systems, and a raft of new soft features, the "new tech" bases appear to be covered. The question, then, is whether the SD890 hangs on to enough of the older SD's form and function to strike that all-important balance....more

The Olympus Stylus 1030 SW definitely has the rugged qualities needed to fulfill its mission. If you need a waterproof, shockproof, coldproof, and crush-proof camera, it absolutely fits the bill and it even looks good doing it. Operationally, the camera works well and operates quickly, but could have better battery life and an easier user interface. ...more

Few cameras are announced a full two years before they hit the shelves in your local camera shop. But the Sigma DP1 was destined for a long and difficult birth. Very few compact cameras, apart from Leica's M8 and Epson's R-D1, have taken a large image sensor and squeezed it into a compact body....more

Few camera companies seem to be creating waves with compact point-and-shoot cameras like Panasonic. Panasonic cameras are now widely respected thanks to Leica-branded lenses, combined with features, performance, and build quality that rival anything from Canon or Nikon. The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ10 is a budget compact digital camera designed for ease of use and creative control for the least possible expense....more

Sony A350 - Digital SLR Review

On the face of it, this new Digital SLR from Sony is positively groaning with extra features and some very clever functions. But just like a bargain car that comes with electric windows, alloy wheels, CD player and air-conditioning, those extras don't necessarily make it enjoyable to use or even good value.A camera is so much more than mere specifications; if it feels clumsy and cheap to use, then it won't be a pleasure to own....more
